New music: Destiny’s Child, David Bowie & Justin Timberlake [Update: JT’s “Suit & Tie” featuring Jay-Z out now]

There’s new music to hear from artists you might have thought you’d never hear from again. First up is the musical trio Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams, better known together as Destiny’s Child. Before Beyoncé became her own star, she led a group that pumped out hit after hit in the late ’90s and early 2000s. Remember “Independent Woman,” “Survivor,” and “Bootylicious?” Well, apparently there’s more where that came from. Last Friday, Destiny’s Child released their first single since 2004 called “Nuclear.” It’s produced by Pharrell and rather than bouncing back with a thumping beat they’ve invigorated their new image with a soft R&B tune that makes you remember just how well these ladies can harmonize together. “Nuclear” is a track off a brand new compilation album from Destiny’s Child Love Songs. The 14-track album contains romantic-themed songs they recorded between 1997-2004. As you can see in the tracklisting posted after the break, “Nuclear” remains the only new material to be included. Listen to it, it’s embedded above. Beyoncé will reunite Destiny’s Child on-stage when she hosts this year’s Super Bowl half-time show.

To hear David Bowie’s new single and learn about JT’s comeback, jump after the break.

To celebrate his 66th birthday, David Bowie released a brand new song “Where Are We Now?” on last Tuesday, January 8. It is in fact a single off his upcoming 30th studio album The Next Day, his first release in ten years. The Next Day is out March 12 in the U.S.; the standard edition contains 13 tracks; a “deluxe” edition includes three additional tracks. The single is available for download today and the album is up for preorder at iTunes. Listen to the dreamy track in the freaky music video embedded above. Bowie is back and one can only wonder how his new material will line up against his aged classics.

Justin Timberlake the actor (see The Social Network) and the businessman (read: MySpace) is ready to return to his original passion, music. For years JT has been asked when he was planning on bringing sexy back and he typically responded by saying he’s most interested in pursuing his fledged film career. Well on Thursday last week he finally shut everybody up and firmly planted his feet as an artist by dropping a video that teases his return to music. Unfortunately the clip doesn’t contain samples of new material; instead Timberlake explains his absence from the industry and his excitement to return. He narrates:

“Someone asked me the other day, ‘so are you just done with music?’ It means more to me than anybody else in the world. Look I’ve only done two albums in ten years — that’s the way I really look at it. What does the next decade mean to me. I’m the one that sits and is obsessive about it before you even get to hear it. As close as I get to it, I don’t think I can physically torture myself that much, year in and year out, and expect it to fulfill me the way that it does and the way that it is right now. I don’t wanna put anything out that I  don’t love. You just don’t get that every day. You have to wait for it.”

If you click over to his official website you’ll be greeted by the clip (which is embedded above here) and then a countdown timer that’s aimed to hit zero tomorrow, Monday, January 14 at 12AM ET. Could this be when the first single off his next album drops? Probably. Or maybe we’ll find out when exactly his first album since 2004’s FutureSex/LoveSounds will come out. It’s been far too long since the talented music maker grabbed the mic–get pumped.

Update (1/13): The timer has reached zero and the Timbaland-produced track has arrived. “Suit & Tie” is the single off JT’s third studio album The 20/20 Experience and it features a verse from rap legend Jay-Z. Pick it up at iTunes today. Preview it here. He also shared an open letter with his fans; here it is in full:

An Open Letter to you (the fans):

I hope this gets to you the right way. It’s the only way I know to do it. Some people may criticize me for the last 3 days. But it was fun, right?? Right?!?! Besides, I’d rather speak directly to all of you. And, who can knock me for having a little bit of fun with it?

Well… No more teasing. Although, it was A LOT of fun. (Did I mention that I’m having fun with this?? Ha!)

*Makes a serious face*

So, here goes:

This year is an exciting one for me. As you probably have heard through the “grapevine,” I’m gearing up for a big 2013.
Back in June of last year, I quietly started working on what is now, my next journey with that thing I love called MUSIC.

The inspiration for this really came out of the blue and to be honest, I didn’t expect anything out of it. I just went into the studioand started playing around with some sounds and songs. It was probably the best time I’ve had in my career… Just creating with no rules and/or end goal in mind and really enjoying the process.

What I came up with is something I couldn’t be more excited about! It is full of inspiration that I grew up listening to and some newfound muses that I’ve discovered along the way.

I’m calling it “The 20/20 Experience,” and it’s coming out this year.

I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.

That’s all I’m giving you for now… I know, I know! Again, with the teasing!!!

Get ready. This is going to be fun (well, at least it is for me).
