Music video round-up: Bob Dylan & Pharrell Williams create fun, interactive clips; Kanye West gets parodied [Update: Eminem is a “Rap God”]

Forty-eight years after Bob Dylan released his 1965 hit “Like A Rolling Stone” the track gets its very own music video and a uniquely impressive one at that. Israeli director Vania Heymann partnered with interactive videomaker Interlude to imagine a music video experience that allows the viewer to flip through TV channel stations and inside each one TV personalities are lip-syncing Dylan’s song. There are 16 stations to flip through using your arrow key or mouse press; from Pawn Stars to The Price is Right to Marc Maron’s podcast, Dylan permeates through them all without missing a beat. Mash play in the TV box embedded above and see it to believe it.

Jump after the break to watch new music vids from Pharrell and Kanye West.

Here’s a video that will make your day, literally. “Happy” by Pharrell Williams from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack is a four-minute track that’s been turned into “the world’s first 24-hour music video.” Sure, you can sample the song above but that won’t compare to what you’ll find at 24hoursofhappy.com. The interactive clip–which plays the song on a continuous loop for 24 hours–lets you play the song throughout various parts of the day; for example, the shots turn from day to night depending on where you are playing the clip–sunrise, noon, sunset, and midnight are designated sections. In addition to Pharrell and celebrity cameos, the majority of the video features random people like you and me dancing and singing along to the infectious and yes downright happy track. Enjoy!

Try as he might but Kanye West’s latest offering simply can’t live up to the boldly interactive recent releases from Dylan and Pharrell. “Bound 2” might be the best track off Ye’s Yeezus but it’s music video fails to make an impression. It’s not an absolute failure–the opening wide, sweeping shots of nature are quite good and I like the slight alterations made to the track to keep it fresh for the vid. But including his fiance Kim Kardashian was a mistake; if we wanted to see the reality star flaunt her body there are other ways to do that if you catch my drift. What would have been fantastic is if featured artist Charlie Wilson belted out the chorus alongside West here. Instead, unfortunately, we get Kim K writhing atop a motorcycle controlled by Mr. West. Ok, fine, epic fail.

Update: You can say it was bound 2 happen. Pineapple Express duo James Franco and Seth Rogen have produced a shot-for-shot parody of Kanye’s widely panned music video. Yep, it’s hysterical and you can say it was well worth Ye putting out this music video just so the world could see this parody video. Without further ado, watch Franco and Rogen get. it. on.

Update 2: Arguably the strongest cut off Eminem’s MMLP2 is “Rap God” and in it the prodigal wordsmith proves he is just that. A music video with 80s-like visuals and a recurring theme around technology (i.e. video games) has landed and in it Marshall Mathers spits hard as ever. Listen to the controversial track and watch the funky visuals in the fresh clip embedded above.
