TV reminder: 4 premieres to look out for in May

As summer approaches many of your favorite shows will be airing their season finales this month. But don’t freak–May is home to a handful of exciting premieres headlined by the return of 24 and Louie. Jump after the break for details.

Monday, 5/5: 24: Live Another Day (FOX, 8PM)

It’s time. The clock resumes on 24 when the brand new, 12 episode event series 24: Live Another Day premieres tonight. Four years have past since we last saw Jack Bauer. He’s still in exile and on the run with the ninth season taking place in London. Chloe O’Brien returns as an Edward Snowden-type hacker, James Heller is the President of the United States, and his daughter/Jack’s former love interest Audrey is back in the mix. Once again Jack is ready and willing to thwart a major terrorist attack, but this time he’s not working for any government so if you thought the rulebook was thrown out before, things are about to get even more intense. Live Another Day debuts with a 2-hour premiere (as is the 24 way) and next Monday, 5/12 it will air in its regular 9PM slot. Remember, the new season will take place in a single day but viewers will only be privy to 12 hours of that day. The argument here: no fluff, all edge-of-your-seat high octane action and plot momentum. And if you haven’t watched 24 before, don’t sweat it. Of course, longtime fans will be treated well, but if you’re new to this that’s perfectly fine since the new season is meant to attract a new generation of viewers. Prepare yourself with these teasers and trailers that released leading up to this day, and check out character stills and one epic portrait in the gallery below. The phenomenal key art hangs above. #JackIsBack

Monday, 5/5Louie (FX, 10PM)

Louie Louie you’re gonna die. Stand-up comedian Louis C.K. returns to FX for the fourth season of his brilliantly awkward series Louie. Fans haven’t had dose of Louie’s unique brand of humor on the show since the third season finale that aired way back in September 2012. The new season is comprised of 14 episodes, one more than Louie typically stars in, directs, produces, and writes for the show each year. I’ll take it! Watch promos here.

Sunday, 5/11 & Thursday, 5/15: Rosemary’s Baby (NBC, 9-11PM)

Zoe Saldana (Avatar) and Patrick J. Adams (Suits) star in a miniseries that is the latest adaptation of Ira Levin’s 1967 suspense novel Rosemary’s Baby. The most famous adaptation is Roman Polanski’s 1967 psychological horror starring Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes.

Here’s a brief synopsis in case you’re not familiar: “It centers on Rosemary Woodhouse (Zoe Saldana), a young wife and would-be mother who, with her husband Guy (Patrick J. Adams), moves into a Paris apartment that has a dark past. After finally getting pregnant, she becomes increasingly suspicious that both her husband and their mysterious neighbors have ulterior motives about the future of her child.”

It’s May and the majority of shows that started back in September are coming to their conclusions. This two-part four-hour miniseries looks like a fun thrill ride the help fill the gap while your favorite shows go on summer hiatus. Watch the official trailer here for a taste. Rosemary’s Baby premieres 5/11 and it concludes four days later on 5/15.

Thursday, 5/22: Gang Related (FOX, 9PM)

Fox saved one of their most promising dramas for a late summer premiere with Gang Related. The action-drama features an exciting cast including Ramon Rodriguez (The Wire), Terry O’Quinn (Lost), and Wu-Tang Clan rapper RZA. In brief, the gritty series follows members of the Los Angeles Police Department’s elite Gang Task Force as they take on the area’s most dangerous gangs, including one gang that a task member has ties to.
