Movie trailer round-up: Disney’s ‘Into the Woods,’ ‘Night at the Museum 3,’ ‘SpongeBob Movie 2’ & ‘Interstellar’

Disney is adapting the Tony-winning original musical Into the Woods into a movie. Like the Broadway musical before it, the theatrical adaptation is inspired by classic Brothers Grimm fairytales such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel. The film is directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) and composer Stephen Sondheim provides the music and lyrics. Its synopsis and stars follow:

“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy)—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife (James Corden & Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch (Meryl Streep) who has put a curse on them.

Into the Woods hits theatres December 25.

Ben Stiller and all of his historical and magical museum friends return in a third installment of the Night at the Museum franchise. In Secret of the Tomb, the The Tablet of Ahkmenrah starts to lose its magical powers and Stiller’s Larry Daley must span the globe to save the magic (and in turn, his friends) from biting the proverbial dust.

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb hits theatres December 19.

Paramount and Nickelodeon are releasing a second Spongebob Squarepants movie. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water takes the porous character and his friends out of Bikini Bottom and into the real world. Once they reach land they transform into superheroes in order to obtain a secret recipe (yes, the recipe to make Krabby Patties) stolen by Burger-Beard the Pirate (played by Antonio Banderas). In the water, Sponge and co. are animated like usual; on land they are CGI-ified. Check out their brand new look in the trailer above. SpongeBob Squarepants executive producer Paul Tibbitt makes his directorial debut.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water hits theatres February 6, 2015.

Here’s the latest look at Christopher Nolan’s anticipated Interstellar. Out November 7.
