Spielberg’s ‘Terra Nova’ selects series regulars, ready for production

FOX is ready to push forward with the Steven Spielberg/Peter Chernin sci-fi drama Terra Nova.  The series regulars have been cast and they are: Jason O’Mara (Life on Mars; who will play lead Jim Shannon), Shelley Conn (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; Elizabeth Shannon), Allison Miller (Boston Legal; Skye), Mido Hamada (he was baddie Samir Mehran from the last season of 24), Landon Liboiron (Degrassi: The Next Generation), and Christine Adams (The Whole Truth, Pushing Daisies).  According to EW, Adams will play “a battle-hardened resident of Terra Nova who gets to know the Shannon family.”  And here’s a bit of disappointing news.  24 alum David Fury–who was signed on as executive producer with pal Jon Cessar–has left the show due to “creative differences.”

Terra Nova follows Jim Shannon, a man who is sent back in time to prehistoric Earth with family in an attempt to save the human race.  Production begins next week in Australia.  The show premieres next fall, but FOX plans to preview the pilot this May.

Kyle Chandler & Elle Fanning sign on for Abrams’ ‘Super 8’

Paramount Pictures has let slip the first two stars to come out of J.J. Abrams’ upcoming 2011 sci-fi flick Super 8.  They are Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) and Elle Fanning (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Dakota’s sister).  Principal photography began September 20 in West Virginia.  Interested in learning more about Super 8?  Head over to the May 7 post that features the teaser trailer and (sparse) details surrounding the project that is shrouded in mystery.  It’s an Abrams pursuit; what else more could you ask for?

AMC’s The Walking Dead casts Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes

Last month, AMC announced a new show based on Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead, a highly acclaimed comic book series about a world run by zombies.  Actor Andrew Lincoln (Love, Actually) has been given the lead role in Rick Grimes, a “small-town police officer who leads a group of survivors of a zombie apocalypse.”  Says Kirkman: “Andrew Lincoln, wow–what an amazing find this guy is.  Writing Rick Grimes month after month in the comic series, I had no idea he was an actual living breathing human being and yet here he is.  I couldn’t be more thrilled with how this show is coming together.”  His partner Shane had already been cast; Jon Bernthal (The Pacific) got the part.  Together they will fight off zombies when The Walking Dead premieres on AMC this October.

Zemeckis finds his Fab Four for ‘Yellow Submarine’ 3D remake

Director Robert Zemeckis (A Christmas Carol (2009), The Polar Express), in collaboration with Disney, is remaking The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine feature film.  In 3D.  The original 1968 movie was animated and trippy and featured a soldier named Old Fred, the Blue Meanies, and of course The Beatles and their brilliant soundtrack.  Zemeckis will be using  3D performance-capture technology for the remake.  And the (new) Fab Four are: Cary Elwes, Dean Lennox Kelly, Peter Serafinowicz and Adam Campbell are George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr, respectively.  Look after the break to compare the actors to the real fab four.

Not so sure how all this is going to turn out.  But I’ll give it to the casting crew: all four selections are British and Serafinowicz was raised in Liverpool.  And I love Beatles music.

Lost: The Final Season: characters returning, end date marked

Lost Picture

I love me my Lost news.  Let’s get right to it!

Remember that exclusive image I posted from Comic Con a while back now?  Well here it is in all it’s visible glory!  From left to right we can make out Faraday, Boone, Miles, Michael, Ana Lucia, Charlotte, Shannon, Desmond, Eko, Kate, Jack, Sawyer, Locke, Ben, Sayid, Libby, Sun, Jin, Claire, Hurley, Juliet, Charlie, Frank, Richard, Bernard, and Rose.  Notice Locke is facing away for reasons not fully explained yet.  Who is missing from the poster is equally important: Walt, Nikki, and Paulo.  Well, maybe not so much the latter two.  But where’s Walt??  WALT!!!  He was a season regular back in the beginning, and it is strange that he is not featured here alongside his season regulars (and some non-regulars) from over the years.  Check out the gallery below for up close shots of the poster to see for yourself.

In related news, EW has reported that Ian Somerhalder (Boone) is en route to Hawaii.  This can mean only one thing.  In fact Somerhalder confirms it: “I’m literally getting on a plane in 45 minutes to fly to Hawaii.  The only thing I can say is that I’m going back for several episodes….I have a script that weighs like 200 pounds, but I don’t really know what’s happening.”  This pretty much officially confirms Boone’s return to the island (or mainland), and the poster points to the remainder of the MIA/dead characters returning to the show.

And finally, I have exciting and sad news bunched into one.  The date has been pegged for the series finale of Lost: Wednesday, May 19th, 2010.  I just shed and tear and swallowed the bittersweet taste.

Look forward to LOST: The Final Season this January on ABC.
