“Meet Captain America” featurette

We’ve already been privy to two explosive trailers for Marvel’s upcoming superhero flick Captain America: The First Avenger. Well, now here’s one more video for you to ogle before Cap comes to theatres on July 22. In this “Meet Captain America” featurette you’ll see flashes of new footage from the movie and get some insight into the making of it from director Joe Johnston and actors Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell.

Trailer 2: Captain America: The First Avenger

Check out this shiny new trailer for Marvel’s upcoming summer flick Captain America: The First Avenger. This one expands upon the original trailer, and it’s definitely more bad-ass. Again we get to watch a scrawny Steve Rogers transform into the super solider Captain America and this time we get a better look at Red Skull’s army HYDRA. As much as I enjoyed Thor and Green Lantern, Cap is going to blow those away. The First Avenger makes his way to the big screen July 22.

Trailer: Captain America: The First Avenger

We got a glimpse into the upcoming Captain American movie when a 30-second spot aired during the Super Bowl, but that does not compare to this full blown trailer recently submitted to the Internet by Marvel. In the theatrical trailer we witness a scrawny Steve Rogers (great FX here with Chris Evans) fight his way into the US army so he can help battle the Nazis and destroy Hitler. When he’s turned down, his sheer perseverance gains the attention of scientists who want to carry out an experiment. Said experiment is part of the top-secret super-soldier program that ultimately transforms Rogers into a man with incredible strength and speed. Captain America is born. The story’s villain Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) makes a quick cameo.

Captain America: The First Avenger hits theatres July 22 in three dimensions.

Super Bowl XLV commercials

This shouldn’t be much of a surprise, but #BrandBowl was trending right next to #SuperBowl in the Twittersphere during the big game today.  While the sports-loving percentage of the country kept their minds focused on the Packers and Steelers, the rest of us admittedly didn’t care so much for the game and instead invested our time in watching the commercials placed neatly between timeouts and end of quarters.  As you know, companies spend millions of dollars for a 30-second spot during the most watched (sporting) event on TV.  So how did they fare this year?  All in all they were alright; nothing wildly spectacular caught my attention but they were definitely some stand outs worth mentioning and watching again.  From beer to cars to Doritos, tech, and movie trailers–it’s all after the break for you to peruse. Captain America poses for ‘AVENGE’ poster

As Captain America: The First Avenger inches closer to its July 22 release, Marvel plans to release content the ramp up anticipation.  First up is this war-themed poster featuring Cap, his shield, and dirt flying everywhere. The word AVENGE sits in the middle–is this a hint as to what’s to come in the movie (will he avenge Pearl Harbor?) or is it simply a nod to the upcoming superheros fest The Avengers? Time will tell, but for now I like what I see.

NEW LOOK! Chris Evans in full Captain America costume

We’ve already seen Chris Evans dressed as Captain America on the cover of EW’s October issue this past fall.  But check out this new look where we find Evans dressed in the FULL Cap costume, wing-accented helmet and all! I’m really digging the bold colors and the rugged material of the suit.  In fact, according to EW, Cap’s uniform “was designed to resemble a tricked-out airman’s jumpsuit.”  I like it.  Here’s a fun fact for you: According to costume designer Anna Sheppard, it takes Evans about 25 minutes to gear up.  She spills, “He likes to do it all by himself. I think it helps him feel like a super hero.”  Captain America: The First Avenger opens July 22, 2011.

Update: Another image has surfaced!  Hop after the break and take a gander.

Look! It’s Chris Evans dressed as Cap!

Marvel has decided it’s time to move past the concept image stage and onto the real thing.  The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly features Chris Evans donning the red, white, and blue Captain America suit and holding the shield.  Yeah, I like what I see.  Too bad he’s not wearing the super cool helmet.  That reveal will likely come as we get closer to the theatrical release of Captain America: The First Avenger.  It opens nationwide July 22, 2011.  And there’s more where this came from.  Look in the gallery below to see more stills of Evans as Cap, as well as a glimpse of Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull.  EW, keep ’em coming.

Say hello to your 2011 Avengers

They are: Robert Downey Jr. — Tony Stark; Clark Gregg — Agent Coulson; Scarlett Johansson — Black Widow; Chris Hemsworth — Thor; Chris Evans — Captain America; Samuel L. Jackson — Nick Fury; Jeremy Renner — Hawkeye; Mark Ruffalo — Hulk.  Director Joss Whedon and Marvel head Kevin Feige are up there, too.

Marvel killed it at Comic Con this year.  They literally slaughtered the competition.  After unveiling new footage of Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor (in 3D), the official ensemble cast of The Avengers was announced.  The biggest surprises?  Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) is set in stone as Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo (Shutter Island, The Kids Are Alright) replaces Edward Norton as Bruce Banner/Hulk.  Marvel head Kevin Feige on the Ruffalo decision: “Ruffalo is Joss Whedon’s Banner. He is the Banner that is going to be in that [Bill] Bixby type, wants to help people and is somewhat ashamed of what he goes through but isn’t as strong and angry in his Banner form as he is in his Hulk form, which is something we haven’t really seen in the past films. .. Something like how he was portrayed in the Ultimates, a guy who just wants to be left alone and wear his glasses and do his science.”  Feige also shares that he “hope[s] to develop a standalone franchise” for Renner’s Hawkeye post-Avengers.

During the panel Downey Jr. worked the crowd, naturally.  He invoked the success of Inception, saying it was “just about the most ambitious movie I’ve ever seen.”  He continued, “And then thought wait a goddamn second.  Marvel Studios is going to take all of their top super heros and they’re gonna put them all together in The AvengersThat’s the most ambitious movie I’ve ever seen.”   He concluded, “If we’re going to make a movie this ambitious [then] the most important thing is that we had to find a person to helm it to get your [the fans’] approval”.  Enter Joss Whedon: “I have had a dream all my life and it was not this good…This cast is more than I could have ever of dreamed of working with. And I am going to blow it…I need your love, I need your support.”  Joss, you got it.

The Avengers is slated for a May 4, 2011 release.  Whet your appetite with Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger on May 6, 2011 and July 22, 2011 respectively.  Bonus!  Look in the gallery below for newly released mini-one-sheets featuring Thor and Cap concept art.  Peek after the break to watch your 2011 Avengers assemble at Comic Con in video form.

Concept images of Thor & Captain America emerge

This week images of the next two Avengers have leaked into the wild.  First there’s Thor the Norse god who wields the Mjolner hammer.  (If you have not seen Iron Man 2 yet, make sure you stay for the credits for a sneak peek of said hammer.)  If you are doubting that this image of Thor is real, just compare it to the official still of Chris Hemsworth as Thor outed by Marvel a few weeks ago.  The concept image matches up pretty well if you ask me.  Thor is expected to hit theatres May 6, 2011.

Next we have the first (ever) image of what Chris Evans will look like as Captain America, the first Avenger.  And you know what, he’s looking pretty bad-ass.  From the mask to the sheild (which was also hinted at in Iron Man 2), the suspenders, and the kevlar red-white-and-blue retro-fitted suit, Cap appears ready for the big screen.  Captain America: The First Avenger, directed by Joe Johnston, is expected to hit theatres July 22, 2011.

Look in the gallery below for more concept images of Thor and Captain America.
