Address label finds fault with Esquire’s ‘magic’ issue

Yeah so remember when I posted about Esquire’s attempt to re-energize the zine industry with the inclusion of augmented reality tricks hidden within its latest issue?  Well look what we have here.  In order to augment your reality (ie. see Downey Jr. jump around on the page) you need to point a special-coded marker to your computer’s webcam.  It looks like customers are receiving the issue with the address label covering the marker on the cover page!  WTF, indeed.

Esquire has commented on the matter.  And that can be read after the break if you so choose to do so.

Augmented reality front and center in Esquire’s December issue

Augmented reality in magazines works like this:  You take the magazine, find special (black and white) coded markings, hold said markings up to your computer’s webcam, and voila–you can now interact with your magazine.  In this case, it involves being greeted by Academy Award winner (and brilliant actor) Robert Downey Jr., told jokes by Community’s Gillian Jacobs, and by rotating the magazine in various ways you can change the surrounding environment and clothes worn by actor Jeremy Renner.  Gimmicky, yes, but neat stuff nonetheless.  Will augmented reality tricks save the zine industry?  That’s a debated topic that shall be saved to discuss another day.  This issue of Esquire is on newsstands now.

Meet Esquire’s Sexist Woman Alive, Kate Beckinsale

kate beckinsale as the sexiest woman alive on the cover of esquire

In what is a surprise turn of events, Esquire has decided to name the beautiful Kate Beckinsale this year’s Sexist Woman Alive.  After filming and shooting Megan Fox with a 3K RED One camera for a photoshoot last May, director Greg Williams hinted at using an upgraded 5k Red Epic camera to shoot the Sexiest Woman Alive.  This hint misled me to believe that Megan Fox would be shot again, this time for the special shoot.  Today Esquire has released the photoshoot video, directed by Greg Williams, of actress Kate Beckinsale.  And damn does she look good in super-HD.  The 5K RED Epic camera allows the photographer to shoot video in high definition and then choose specific frames to print for the magazine cover and story.  Congratuations, Beckinsale.  We all look forward to picking up the Sexiest Woman Alive edition of Esquire this November.

Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive 2009 tease

Oh, there’s nothing to doubt here. IT’S MEGAN FOX.

Remember that video I posted a while back? Yeah, that one. Esquire shot Megan Fox’s cover shoot with a RED One video camera rather than a digital camera. This allows for extreme detail and produces amazing results for stills. Photographer Greg Williams is shooting the sequel with “the first-ever Red One camera outfitted with the Epic 5K Mysterium-X Sensor.” And if you thought the first video/photo shot was blazing hot, you haven’t seen anything yet. This upgraded RED One camera shoots at four-times HD!

For now, peek at the gallery below for two exclusive stills from the photo shoot. Check back here for the full video and Esquire‘s official announcement of Sexiest Woman Alive this October. Chyeah!

Good morning, Megan Fox.

Esquire magazine shot actress Megan Fox for its June 2009 issue.  This was the first magazine photoshoot to be shot using video.  Photographer Greg Williams shot the cover still with the 4K RED One video camera.  Hot stuff.  Be sure to check out Megan Fox in action this summer in Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, opening June 24th.

Image of the RED One, photoshoot video link (!), and full cover story with pictures posted after the break.  Ah hell, here’s the link: Megan Fox Esquire Video Shoot
