It was only a matter of time before Saturday Night Live produced a sketch parodying the uber-popular Showtime series Homeland. Anne Hathaway proved that she’s got what it takes to over-exaggerate Claire Danes’ “crazy” Carrie Matheson, Bill Hader can add yet another spot-on impersonation to his list with his subtle portrayal of Mandy Patinkin’s Saul Berenson, and Taran Killam has the look and just the right sized mouth to pull off a believable Nicholas Brody; Kenan served as David Estes and Nasim popped in at the end for a brief but effective poke at Brody’s annoying daughter Dana. From the re-creation of the opening credits sequence to Carrie’s obsession with corkboards and her quivering chin, SNL did a stand-up job parodying the show that’s on everyone’s DVRs. Though they had the opportunity to do so much more with it (where was Saul’s ruler and peanut butter…anyone?), it’s an instant classic in my book.

FUNNY: Jimmy Fallon spoofs the debate, tells Jim Lehrer to “shut the f**k up”
If you watch the Presidential debate this week, you will find this spoof to be absolutely hilarious. A day after the debate, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon debuted this sketch which stars Fallon as Mitt Romney, an Obama impersonator, and Late Night head writer A.D. Miles as frustrated moderator Jim Lehrer. Lehrer had a difficult time keeping the candidates on the same subject and time contraints made matters worse. In this spot-on spoof, Romney and Obama team up and tell Lehrer to “shut the f**k up.” Enjoy.
FoD: Don Cheadle is Captain Planet
This video featuring Don Cheadle as Captain Planet quickly went viral and after hitting play you’ll no longer wonder why. What starts out as a pleasant message for kids telling them to combat pollution by preserving trees suddenly morphs into a full-scale killing spree. One of the Planeteers doesn’t make it. Yeah, it gets that dark.

Apple outs new Time Capsule, Final Cut Pro X [Update: Conan slams it (video)]
At long last Apple’s Time Capsule gets a refresh. The sleek device that serves as a wireless base station and a backup hard drive comes in two sizes: 2TB and 3TB. The 1TB model has been discontinued. But now you get more bang for your buck! While the local storage increases, prices remain the same: $299.99 for the 2TB model and $499.99 for the 3TB model. Besides the bump in storage, Apple claims that “new technologies in Time Capsule and refinements to Time Machine make backing up to Time Capsule using Snow Leopard up to 75 per cent faster than before.” Get yours at Apple’s online store today.
In related Apple news, the company has let loose its totally revamped version of Final Cut Pro. The video editing software is built on 64-bit architecture and boasts a completely redesigned UI which includes a Magnetic Timeline, Content Auto-Analysis, and and background rendering. Motion 5 and Compressor 4 are also available for download in the Store for $49.99 a piece.

PhotoSketch magically turns a sketch into a montage
Photosketch, created by Tao Chen, Ming-Ming Cheng, Ping Tan, Ariel Shamir, and Shi-Min Hu at the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Tsinghua University and the National University of Singapore.
In simplistic terms, here’s how it works. A user draws a sketch and gives a label to each object in it (ie. bike, birds, boat). Then, the sketch is transformed into an actual picture with real object by “seamlessly stiching a background and several foreground items from photographs retrieved from the Internet in accordance with the sketch and text labels.”
