April Fools, 2011 edition: Starbucks Mobile Pour

You might think that a Starbucks exists on every corner of every street in the universe, but you know what’s just not true. So the company has decided to formally introduce Starbucks Mobile Pour to combat the problem of not being able to find a Starbucks location when you really need your fix. The new service puts baristas on scooters so that they can hand deliver your coffee order to you no matter your location. You can download the Mobile Pour app on your smartphone and it will pinpoint your location, allow you to select your coffee order, and keep on your merry way until a barista politely informs you on the street that your coffee has arrived. The first phase of the initiative involves sending out two scooter baristas per every square mile to ensure speedy service in seven of the largest cities around the country. Eventually they plan on bringing the service to malls where baristas will don rollerblades to quickly make their way to shoppers. See how Mobile Pour works at the source link below.

Starbucks to roll out massive ‘Trenta’ cup size this May

My oh my has that cup grown.  This week Starbucks announced that they will be introducing their biggest cup size yet–the 31-ounce ‘Trenta’–on May 3, 2011.  To put things into perspective for you, Trenta is 7 ounces larger than a Venti.  Trenta sized cups will cost 50 cents more than their Venti brethren and there’s a catch: customers will only be able to order iced coffee and iced tea if they want to leave the shop with a Trenta in hand.  Starbucks will begin the rollout in 14 states (including Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Hawaii and Arizona) on January 18, it will hit California shops on February 1, and it will make its way to all 50 states on May the third.

The National Post put together a handy chart that pits the Trenta against the other coffee cup sizes and the human stomach.  Fun, startling fact: Trenta’s 916 millilter size is larger than the human stomach’s “average” 900 milliliter capacity.  Uh, yikes.  Look after the break to find said infographic.

Well, it’s certainly not as big as the 128 fl oz Plenta cup, but at this pace we’re well on our way.

Starbucks now offering free WiFi to all its customers

As of July 1, all company-operated Starbucks coffee shops in the U.S. and Canada now offer free in-house WiFi to their customers.  Here’s what’s changed: “Most recently, the free Wi-Fi benefit was limited to two hours a day and only available to members of the My Starbucks Rewards program. The new, unlimited Wi-Fi offering features a one-click entry point, so a username or password will not be required.”  To access the Internet at your local Starbucks, whip out your laptop, tablet, or mobile phone, search for nearby WiFi hotspots, accept the Starbucks terms and conditions and click connect.  It’s as simple as that.  Now where’s my orange mocha frappachino??

Starbucks recommends “several subsequent uses” for the cups: “…options [for the Plenta] include popcorn receptacle, rain hat, perennial planter, lampshade or yoga block.  The Micra also serves as a convenient milk dish for kittens, soft boiled egg cup or paper clip holder.”

The Starbucks Love Project will make you smile

“On December 7th, 2009 at 1:30pm GMT Starbucks invited musicians from all over the world to sing together at the same time to raise awareness for AIDS in Africa. In that one breathtaking moment, musicians from 156 countries played “All You Need is Love” together. Watch now, as musicians from all around the world come together and share a song.”

That’s right: 156 countries.  1 song.  Same tempo.  Singing/playing The Beatles’ “All You Need is Love.”  This unique wordwide event was organized by Starbucks to raise awareness for the fight against AIDS in Africa.  “In just one year in partnership with (RED), Starbucks has generated money equivalent to more than 7 million days of medicine to help those living with HIV in Africa.”
