‘The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ comes to Syfy this spring

Hot on the heels of The Science Channel acquiring the rights to air Joss Whedon’s Firefly, the Syfy network intends to bring back another cult favorite program axed from network TV prematurely. Syfy will air all 31 episodes (spanning 2 seasons) of the ill-fated FOX show Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles starting Thursday, April 7 at 9PM. After its cable premiere date, TSCC will air Thursdays from 7PM to 11PM–that’s right, the station will air 4 one-hour episodes back-to-back every Thursday. Intense stuff. Though the show got off on shaky ground, it quickly found its feet towards the latter half of season one and its shortened second season made for some really great TV. If you missed out on its original run, I highly recommend checking it out on Syfy this April. By the time the series finale rolls around you will be begging to the powers that be for more. Sure it’s set in the Terminator universe, but the show distances itself from the movies by expanding on familiar names (read: John and Sarah Conner) and introducing new and exciting characters (Summer Glau’s Cameron and Garrett Dillahunt’s Cromartie). Plus a TV movie may be in the works, so you’ve got to prepare for that.

Syfy sets air date for ‘Red: Werewolf Hunter’ (starring Felicia Day)

Syfy’s dark reimagining of the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood is ready for its televised debut.  Red: Werewolf Hunter (yep, the subtitle is new) will premiere during during Syfy’s “31 Days of Halloween” event on Saturday, October 30 at 9:00PM ET.  We’ve been anticipating this day since last March when news broke that Felicia Day (The Guild, Dr. Horrible) would star as a gun-toting, werewolf-hunting descendant.  If you missed the trailer, check it out and then mark your calendars.  This is going to be a chilling, fun ride.

Trailer: Syfy’s Red (starring Felicia Day)

Waay back in March news broke that The Guild/Dr. Horrible‘s Felicia Day would star in a Syfy original movie called Red, a dark re-imagining of the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood.  This past weekend at Comic Con the trailer for it was finally debuted.  To call this a “dark” version of the tale is an understatement.  There’s guns and blood and creepy CGI wolves.  Ah, I won’t spoil it all for you; check it out in the video above.  Red is expected to air next July.

Felicia Day to star in Syfy’s dark re-imagining of Little Red Riding Hood

Felicia Day (Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, The Guild, Buffy) is ready to put her prominent red hair (and acting chops) to the test in Syfy’s reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood aptly called Red.  She will play a werewolf-hunting descendant of Little Red Riding Hood.

In the action-packed Red, Red (Day) brings her fiancé home, where he meets the family and learns about their business – hunting werewolves. He’s skeptical until bitten by a werewolf. When her family insists he must be killed, Red tries saving him.

Red is one Syfy original movie in a series of re-imagined classic fairy tales.  Syfy is also “developing films around the stories of Aladdin, Sinbad the Sailor and Hansel & Gretel.”  You can expect Red to air July 2011.  Full PR announcement after the break.

Sci Fi mutates into Syfy

“Sci Fi Channel has a new name, but it sounds the same: Syfy.”  As of Tuesday, July 7th, the Sci Fi channel rebranding is in full effect.  Sci Fi is now Syfy, and the tagline is now “Imagine Greater.”  The decision to make the change came in March 2009 when the cable giant decided it was time for a broadening of its viewership.  Don’t worry Sci Fi fans; although there is a name change and an overhaul of the branding and website, the new Syfy keeps the same programming lineup as before, with a new addition: Warehouse 13 and Caprikia, the prequel series to Battlestar Galactica.  On a personal note, I happen to enjoy the “Twilight Zone” marathons they air from time to time.
