James Franco travels back in time to save JFK in ‘11.22.63,’ the next series from J.J. Abrams & Stephen King

J.J. Abrams and his production company Bad Robot (Lost, Fringe, Person of Interest) aren’t tipping toes into the world of subscription-based streaming; with 11.22.63, the ubiquitous storyteller is diving in head-first. Abrams’ latest TV series is coming to Hulu in 2016 and it’s based on Stephen King’s 2011 novel of the same name. King (Under the Dome) also serves as executive producer. Here’s the official logline, time travel included.

Hulu Original series 11.22.63 is a thriller in which high school English teacher Jake Epping travels back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy — but his mission is threatened by Lee Harvey Oswald, falling in love and the past itself, which doesn’t want to be changed.

Movie actor James Franco, best known for stoner comedies such as This is The End and Pineapple Express, takes a dramatic turn as lead character Jake Epping and the supporting cast includes Chris Cooper (The Bourne Identity), Josh Duhamel (Battle Creek), T.R. Knight (Grey’s Anatomy), Cherry Jones (24), Sarah Gadon, Lucy Fry, George MacKay, and Daniel Webber.

The series’ first teaser trailer rests above and packed inside the 30-second clip are more than enough tantalizing glimpses to appropriately whet your appetite. “I’m gonna tell you something that’s gonna seem crazy,” says an off-screen narrator. “If you go through there, it’s 1960.” Chills is the proper response.

Prepare for you next binge as 11.22.63 rolls out on Hulu on February 15, 2016. Happy President’s Day.

‘Homeland’ season 5 teaser reunites Carrie & Saul in Europe

Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) gets kidnapped in the first teaser trailer promoting Homeland‘s fifth season. Also, Saul “The Bear” Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) calls Carrie “naive and stupid” to which Carrie replies, “I’m not atoning. I’m just trying to do good work.” And don’t fret–Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) will find himself in the crossfire this go-around, too. A brief synopsis of events follows:

Premiering this fall, Homeland will pick up two years after Carrie Mathison’s ill-fated tenure as Islamabad station chief. Struggling to reconcile her guilt and disillusionment with years of working on the front lines in the “war on terror,” Carrie finds herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, estranged from the CIA and working as the head of security for a German philanthropist.

Homeland returns to Showtime in September.

Robert Kirkman confirms ‘Walking Dead’ companion series title [Update: First promo inside]

At last, we no longer have to call it the Walking Dead companion series! On Friday, Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman made it official and announced his new AMC series’ name via Twitter: Fear The Walking Dead. See above for the ~~spinoff’s~~ companion series’ logo.

Up to this point, AMC has been referring to Fear The Walking Dead as a “companion series” as opposed to a “spinoff” because while the new show takes place in the same zombie apocalyptic universe as featured in The Walking Dead, it features a brand new cast and it’s set in a distinctly different location (Los Angeles, not Atlanta). And don’t forget! The Walking Dead airs its 90-minute (!) fifth season finale this Sunday night at 9pm on AMC.

Update (3/29): “There’s a strange virus” going around in the first promo for Fear The Walking Dead which made its debut tonight during the season finale of The Walking Dead. The trailer backs up what Kirkman said before:

“From the beginning of the show one thing we’ve heard is, ‘What’s going on over here or there.’ So the intent of the new show is to expand that world and show another corner of the United States and what’s happening there. The timeline is taking place a little bit earlier timeframe than the original show. Rick Grimes woke up from a coma and was like, ‘Oh, man, zombies, weird!’ We’re going to possibly see that unfold a little more in the other show. But I wouldn’t call it ‘prequel’ because the entirety of the show is not going take place before [The Walking Dead]. It will eventually form a path running concurrently.”

Sounds like we’re going to get more insight on how the zombie outbreak unfolded in its early days. Plus, those visuals of cells dividing might be a hint that we’re also going to learn more about the virus and its origins. These are topics mostly untouched by the comics and the flagship TV series. This is pure speculation, of course, but the possibilities are exciting. Watch the promo after the break. Fear premieres this summer on AMC.

ABC picks up ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, first look photos & teaser clip inside

No surprise here: Disney owned ABC is going all in with Marvel by picking up to series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., from Avengers director Joss Whedon. Read the shiny new series synopsis now:

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Coulson’s team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet). Check out the kick-ass cast photo above; in the middle of it all is Phil Coulson, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who sporadically popped up throughout Marvel’s Phase One movies and supposedly died in The Avengers. Guess not; #CoulsonLives. For more proof, check out a seven second teaser after the break. And during tonight’s finale of Once Upon A Time at 8PM, ABC will air a lengthier spot promoting the new series. I’ll post it here after it airs.
