DC unveils first looks at Justice League heroes including Wonder Woman & Aquaman

On Tuesday evening, The CW–the network best known today for its superhero genre fare like Arrow and The Flash–aired a DC Films special documenting first looks at major players in the Justice League. Moviegoers already know so much about Superman and Batman, but little’s been shared about Woman Wonder, Aquaman, and others. Of course, the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will formally introduce those two superheroes played by Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa, respectively. And in 2017, director Zack Snyder will lead a Justice League movie that will invite even more heroes into the mix, Avengers style, including The Flash and Cyborg. In sum, it’s a great time to be a nerd.

Now, go on and jump after the break to see first looks at DC Films’ versions of Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher). You’ll hear from the actors, directors, and producers and sneak a peek at actual footage and conceptual artwork from upcoming DC movies. According to Warner Bros., standalone origin stories for all of these superheroes will begin to roll out starting with Wonder Woman in 2017.

Update (1/21): Warner Bros. has carved out official release dates for Wonder Woman and Justice League: Part 1. The Amazonian superheroine soars into theatres June 23, 2017, and DC’s version of The Avengers assembles November 17, 2017. First look: Gal Gadot brings Wonder Woman to life in standalone pic coming in 2017

Ladies and gentleman, our Wonder Woman. Israeli actress Gal Gadot is set to make her big debut as the DC Comics heroine in Zack Snyder’s upcoming superhero extravaganza Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. We’ve seen her don the classic garb associated with WW in a still plucked from Snyder’s take. This image, however, comes from another place entirely. Warner Bros. is making a standalone Wonder Woman movie starring Gadot and directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster). Gadot took to Twitter to share this enticing pic and couple it with the following caption: “Almost 75 years in the making… #WonderWoman is underway.” Previously I had made the argument that WW is ready for the big screen, and it didn’t take long for my wish to come true.

See Gadot bring Diana Prince to life in Batman v Superman when it releases March 25, 2016. Wonder Woman is on track to hit theatres June 23, 2017.

Comic Con: Zack Snyder outs Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman

During Warner Bros.’ Hall H presentation, director Zack Snyder tweeted out this first official image of Israeli actress Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in his upcoming film Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Welcome the sexy, badass Amazon into the fold and dive into the comments sections to share you thoughts on her modern, gritty look. What do you think?

Zack Snyder adds Wonder Woman to his Superman sequel

Wonder Woman is finally making her way to the silver screen in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Man of Steel sequel featuring Henry Cavill’s Superman and an “older and wiser” Batman played by Ben Affleck. Sexy Israeli-born actress Gal Gadot, who has starred in three of the Fast and Furious installments, is set to play the Amazonian Princess.

Snyder commented on the exciting casting news: “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

The still untitled Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman flick is slated to soar into theatres July 17, 2015.

‘Wonder Woman’ short teases the potential for a TV/movie adaptation

Is it time to bring Wonder Woman back to the screen? After watching this gritty, action-packed take on the DC Comics superheroine, I’d say so. This (too) short film made by director Jesse V. Jackson and starring Nina Bergman teases the potential of a Wonder Woman comeback, either to the big screen or the one in your living room. Jackson is merely a fan of the famed comic book hero with an urge to make Diana Prince relevant again in this age of male-dominated superheros (read: Batman and The Avengers). The guy’s got a compelling argument here if you ask me. I 2011, David E. Kelly attempted to revive Wonder Woman with a TV series developed for NBC starring Adrianne Palicki; it ended up not working out. Most recently The CW wanted to bring Diana back in an origin story series titled Amazon but its development was pushed to the 2014-15 TV season. Hopefully Jackon’s short here will prove to fans and TV/movie execs alike that the time is now bring back the strong and sexiest member of the Justice League back into the spotlight.

Adrianne Palicki is Wonder Woman

Here is the very first image of Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) suited up as Wonder Woman. NBC wants to reboot the classic 1970s series and they’ve tapped David E. Kelley to write and executive produce it. Can the man with a TV degree in law (The Practice, Ally McBeal, Boston Public, Boston Legal, Harry’s Law) successfully bring back the DC Comics superheroine in a way that is relevant and exciting? Time will tell. But for now gaze at the wonderful image sitting above. Palicki certainly has the looks to play the part. But I’ll wait for a teaser before making any further judgement. Cary Elwes (Saw), Tracie Thoms (Cold Case), Pedro Pascal (The Good Wife), and Elizabeth Hurley are attached to the Warner Bros TV project.
