‘Gulp’, the world’s largest stop motion video shot with the Nokia N8

The creative minds at Sumo Science at Aardman have constructed a short film called Gulp, the world’s largest stop motion video. It was shot using the Nokia N8 smartphone which features a 12 megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics. A very tall crane was also used to help shoot the various scenes; the largest scene stretches over 11,000 square feet! It was done on location at Pendine Beach in South Wales. It only makes sense that the same group behind the world record-breaking ‘largest stop-motion animation set’ is also behind the construction of the world’s smallest stop motion video which can be seen here. Nokia’s phones might not have been all the rage in the States, but you cannot deny the delicate precision of the cameras built inside them. Jump after the break to go behind-the-scenes of the impressive Gulp.

British woman smashes previous record to become world’s fastest text messager

Melissa Thompson of Salford, Greater Manchester has gone ahead and broke the world record for fastest text messager.  Using a Samsung Galaxy S cell phone equipped with Swype input she texted the 160-character phrase the Guinness World Records uses for all text messaging records in 25.94 seconds.  That time demolishes the previous record held by American Franklin Page’s 35.54 seconds (who used Swype input on a Samsung Omnia II).  The phrase?  “The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human.”  Try beating this new record, I dare you.

*It is true that the Galaxy S device features a capacitive touchscreen and the Omnia II has a resistive touchscreen, so Thompson definitely had the advantage of using a more responsive display.  But a world record is a world record nonetheless!

The Dutch break Guinness World Record by gaming for 50 hours straight

Six Dutch gamers just broke the Guinness World Record for longest period of time playing a video game.  They played Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption on PlayStation 3 for fifty hours straight.  They shattered the previous record of forty hours and twenty minutes.  They each used the TwistDock to keep their controllers fully charged for the duration of the outing.  When they first entered a video games store in the Netherlands, the six gamers were competitors and wanted to see who could game the longest.  It wasn’t long until the crazy bunch decided to set the world record together.  50 straight hours of gaming awarded them €1,000 (about $1,300), Twistdock accessories, and the greatest prize of all–recognition from the people at Guinness World Records.  I was to end this post by saying “Game On”, but I think the most appropirate end tag is Dream On, am I right?

Look after the break for a shot of the winners.  The kid in the middle is totally giving his best celebratory yawn.
