Dr. Horrible comic comes to the iPhone

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog was a hit 3-part web series.  Then Dark Horse Comics brought the hilarious, musically-inclined story to the comic book world.  And now you can read Zack Whedon’s piece on the iPhone, iPod touch, and soon on the iPad.  Just as a refresher:

In this one-shot comic, Zack Whedon and artist Joelle Jones (Token) establish how a young, impressionable, but brilliant Dr. Horrible was drawn into a world of crime. Readers are reacquainted with the charming, brawny, crime-fighting superhero extraordinaire Captain Hammer when Dr. Horrible crosses paths with his greatest enemy in an all-out showdown of immeasurable proportions. Special guest appearances include Dr. Horrible’s love interest, Penny; his sidekick, Moist; and a meter man.

Though its comic form lacks the music it’s still a great read if you’re a fan of all things Horrible.  And though the iPhone format lacks features like zoom and tap-to-turn pages, the promise of comic book readers for the iPad is all the more exciting.

Dr. Horrible one-shot comic out now!

You’ve already had the chance to preview the comic but now it’s finally here.  If you have been waiting for a Dr. Horrible fix this is it!  The Dr.H comic is written by Zack Whedon (yes, creator Joss’ brother) and the art is by the talented Joelle Jones.  It’s forty pages in length.  And it costs a measly $3.50.  What are you waiting for?

From the Joss Whedon-helmed webmovie Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog comes the origin story of the next greatest supervillain of all time . . . DR. HORRIBLE!

Dr. Horrible sequel notes

Now that Dollhouse has been (sadly) cancelled, Joss Whedon now undoubedly has time to focus on his highly successful Internet-series project, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.  New comments have surfaced concerning the anticipated sequel.  MTV News has the scoop…

Joss’ brother Zack Whedon: “We’ve been planning it pretty much from the minute we finished the first one.”  “They finish up ‘Dollhouse’ in the winter—at least what they’ve scheduled to shoot thus far—so hopefully when that’s done, we’ll all be able to get together more frequently and grind it out,” he explained. “There are a couple of songs written. It’s very promising. We’re all very excited about where it goes.”  “Yeah, you have to see them [Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer] in the sequel.  We will expand the world a little bit into other areas you have not seen… and it will be hilarious.”  He concludes, “We’re doing it for fun and for ourselves and for the fans.  So doing a sequel is really a no-brainer.”

Star Nathan Fillion (Captain Hammer): “There are plans.”  “The media for the sequel has not yet been decided, but there is a title.”  “Joss, I was talking to him right before we won the Emmy.  He said that he’s finished writing a song or two.  He told me a couple of verses to the song.”  “It’s going to be great.  I know a bunch of cast members of Dr. Horrible who would love to get back into it.”

So, a SEQUEL is coming…a TITLE has been selected…and some SONGS have been written.  Still no word on “dead” Penny (Felicia Day).  I’m sure some way or another the Brothers Whedon will figure a way to get her back.  Can’t wait.

Joss Whedon on Dr. Horrible sequel: “We have a story…”

This is great news, everyone!!  Creator, mastermind, and genius Joss Whedon has officially come out and stated that a Dr. Horrible Sing-Along Blog sequel is in the works and a story is bring penned right now!

Whedon: “We’re in there plugging. The writers are trying to put something together.  We haven’t even decided on a venue.  We have a story and we’re working that. We’re just starting with that.  Doesn’t matter if it’s big or small, [we’re just] just figuring out the story.  We’re really excited about what it is. More, I cannot say.”

Yes, he is tight-lipped on the details.  Still, the very fact that the Whedon family (papa Joss and sons Zack and Jed) are hard at work on the story is very exciting.  The revolutionary (and Emmy-nominated!) web series made a splash on the Internets with its low budget musical back in 2008.  A sequel is highly anticipated by all Dr. Horrible fans.  Cross your fingers for reprising roles from the extremely talented Neil Patrick Harris, Nathon Fillion, and Felicia Day.  Peace out, but not literally.

*In celebration of this good news, take a time out and watch all three acts of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog above.  You know you want to.
