‘The Hobbit’ production vlog #7

The seventh video blog that takes us behind-the-scenes of Peter Jackson’s upcoming Hobbit films has arrived! While the last two vlogs took us on a location shooting adventure, this one gives us a grand tour of Stonestreet Studios in Wellington, New Zealand. In fourteen minutes you’ll travel the length of the studio that includes the production offices, a giant trailer park that many of the actors call home, major departments such as hair and make-up, costume, art and the Weta workshop that creates the film’s props. Just like the vlogs that came before it, this one features insight from Jackson along with many members of the hardworking cast and crew. With The Hobbit parts 1 and 2 wrapping in just “a few weeks time” Jackson says that he will output one final vlog shortly thereafter, so we can all look forward to that!

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theatres December 14, 2012.

‘Prometheus’ parody with Joel McHale is spot-on

Now that Ridley Scott’s Prometheus is out in theatres, why not take a break from whatever you’re doing and watch this brief, spot-on parody of one of the movie’s viral videos starring Joel McHale of The Soup and Community fame. Remember that bizarre viral video that introduced Prometheus character David the robot played by Michael Fassbender? Watch that first then this and you tell me how good a job McHale and his team at The Soup did with this one.

Happy Birthday Joel.

First look: Robert Downey Jr. in ‘Iron Man 3’

Here is the first still from the set of Iron Man 3. The Marvel movie broke ground on June 4 in Wilmington, North Carolina and the production schedule plans to bring the cast and crew to far out places like Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina, Miami, Florida, and China. Robert Downey Jr. returns as the armored superhero (see his back to us above). Also confirmed to appear in the movie are Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes, and Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan. Favreau, while still remaining an executive producer, is not directing the third installment; Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) has taken over the reins.

Gaze at Tony Stark gazing over his collection of sweet suits, and start anticipating the return of Iron Man. The genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist is back May 3, 2013.

Trailer: ‘The Bourne Legacy’

The action-packed followup to the February teaser has arrived. Here is the first full-length theatrical trailer for the next movie in the Bourne franchise, The Bourne Legacy. New star Jeremy Renner is trained assassin Kenneth Kitson, “Treadstone, without the inconsistency.” Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac also star alongside franchise vets Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn.

The Bourne Legacy is out August 3.

Movie posters: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

The epic conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy is less than a month away. What better way to spend these days leading up to arguably the most anticipated date of the summer than by gazing at a collection of dark, seductive posters that scream “RISE” and “THE LEGEND ENDS.” The image above is very reminiscent of the orignal TDKR poster that released last July; only this time fire has risen. In the gallery below you’ll find additional posters that highlight the three main contenders: Batman (Christian Bale), Bane (Tom Hardy), and Catwoman (Anne Hathaway). Will Catwoman aka Selina Kyle play a roll in the imminent downfall of the Bat? One of these posters is tipping the scale that way. See for yourself…

The Dark Knight Rises releases July 20.

Trailer round-up: ‘Skyfall’, ‘The Great Gatsby’, ‘Anchorman 2’ & ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’

Movie poster: ‘Anchorman 2’ (video teaser inside)

We already know it’s official. But now it’s official official. Director Adam McKay and star Will Ferrell are hard at work on the sequel to the 2004 cult comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. If this shiny poster says anything, its that the boys of the Channel 4 news team are back in action; that is, Ron (Ferrel), Champ (David Koechner), Brian (Paul Rudd), and Brick (Steve Carrell). Whether or not the film’s actual title is Anchorman: The Legend Continues is still debatable but seems likely.

In an interview with EW, McKay spilled the deets surrounding the secretive teaser trailer he and the stars recently cooked up. Producing the clip “was like the Manhattan Project–except without the possibility of destroying all of mankind, said McKay. He continued, “Paramount came to us with the idea of the teaser, and since we’re writing the script, it was a good chance to see the characters and hang out with the actors to inspire writing. All of the actors slipped right into character and they all looked amazing. Paul has a beard and we’re thinking of keeping it. Kind of an Eddie Rabbit-meets-Serpico look.” Unfortunately for viewers the super-teaser does not reveal an ounce of plot detail. “Nothing’s set,” McKay added. “Right now I can say for sure there is no Ghost Rider cameo or a scene where Ron fights a wolverine on a nose-diving helicopter. We’re either going to shoot the movie in 3-D or 1/2 D.”

The teaser hasn’t hit the web officially yet, but you can hop after the break to watch a shaky, shot-in-the-theatre version if you can’t wait any longer. It’s playing today in front of The Dictator, FYI. More as this story develops, San Diegites. Continue reading Movie poster: ‘Anchorman 2’ (video teaser inside)

Movie trailer round-up: ‘Gangster Squad’, ‘The Watch’ & ‘Total Recall’ [Update: ‘The Campaign’]

The director behind Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less is back with a star-studded gangster pic. Ruben Fleischer has rounded up Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, Nick Nolte, Michael Peña, and Sean Penn to helm Gangster Squad. And here’s what it’s about:

Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. “Gangster Squad” is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.

Yeah, from the looks of this trailer Gangster Squad is going to be one entertaining movie that cannot be missed. Unfortunately we have to wait for October 19 to roll around before we can see it. Perhaps these next two summer movies will hold you over until then… jump after the break! AVENGERS ASSEMBLE TODAY

Since “The Avenger Initiative” was hinted at in 2008’s Iron Man, moviegoers have been anticipating the epic superhero movie that would bring together Marvel’s finest. Under the guidance of geek god Joss Whedon, the Avengers assemble today. Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Hawkeye, and Black Widow unite in the ultimate superhero movie, The Avengers, out today.

I just came out of a midnight screening, so I’ll keep it short and sweet. The Avengers is this: phenomenal eye candy, perfect pacing, balanced tone, comedic as it is epic in scale, and most of all extremely entertaining. No spoilers, see? Just make sure you sit through all the credits; there is not one but two tags to look out for!

Now… May the Fourth be with you.

Trailer #3: ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’

Here’s a new trailer for Marc Webb’s Spidey reboot The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield as the web-slinger. In perhaps the most successful trailer yet, you will get a closer look at the film’s villain The Lizard and you’ll tap into Peter Parker’s funny bone. It features a song from The Glitch Mob, so that doesn’t hurt.

The Amazing Spider-Man hits theatres July 3.
