Tim Burton re-imagines "Alice in Wonderland"

Tim Burton and the strange that he carries with him is back, this time in Alice and Wonderland.  USA Today released the first still from the film, along with the main cast.  Johnny Depp plays the Mad Hatter, Burton’s wife Helena Bonham Carter plays the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway the White Queen, and the role of Alice will be acted out by 19-year-old Australian actress Mia Wasikowska.  Other cast members include Michael Sheen as the White Rabbit, Matt Lucas as twins Tweedledee & Tweedledum, Christopher Lee as The Jabberwock, Crispin Glover as The Knave of Hearts, and Alan Rickman as The Caterpillar.  The latest reports state this as the current synopsis of the film: “Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn’t remember.”  Just by looking at the inital stills, one can clearly see that this recreation will be very trippy, colorful, and weirdly unique, no surprise from visionary director Tim Burton.  Click here for interactive images from the movie, including peeks at “the white rabbit,” “Alice,” and “The Tweedles.”  Alice in Wonderland is set to be released in Disney Digital 3-D on March 3rd, 2010.  Look after the break (click “more…”) for the released character images. Transformers: Rise of the Fallen

…or Megan Fox is Smoking Hot.  Michael Bay’s Transformers 2 is a fun movie.  Fun = tons of explosions, transformers metal-on-metal action, Shia Lebeof running, lots of comedic scenes, and, of course, watching Megan Fox do her thing (look mighty fine).  The story itself is a continuation from the first Transformers film, obviously, and it involves the war between the Autobots and the Decepticons.  With humans stuck in the middle of it all, Sam Witwicky and his pal Optimus Prime are their only hope for survival.  If you go into the movie looking forward to great dialogue and Oscar-worthiness, you will be disappointed.  The trick to really enjoying this movie is twofold: go into it looking forward to having a good time andanticipating the hotness that is Ms. Fox.  If you follow this advice, you will highly enjoy Transformers 2.  Guaranteed.  Oh, and the CGI is stunning.

Seeing it in IMAX at the midnight showing also helped.  People (mostly comprised of Transformers fans) were hootin’ and hollerin’ the whole time, clapping, and whistling when you-know-who enters the scene.  Two memorable quotes from the showing: (1) “Yeah, Optimus Prime roooocks!!”  (2) [Megan Fox enters first scene] “This is the only reason why I’m here!”

J.J. Abrams, my hero

J.J. Abrams is a true genius.  He is a film and television producer, screenwriter, director, actor, composer, and founder of Bad Robot Productions.  He is a visionary who relies on mystery and suspense to tell gripping tales of characters people can truly invest in.  He is the creative mind behind TV shows Felicity, Alias, Lost, Fringe, and soon-to-be-aired Anatomy of Hope.  He is also behind the incredible films Mission: Impossible III, Cloverfield, and Star Trek.  According to the latest rumors, he plans to bring sequels to M: I, Star Trek, and Cloverfield in the near future.  He will also be directing a novel-to-film adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower” with Lost pals Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.  The past, present, and future of Abrams’ career is always bright.  His work is often filled with buzz-worthy news and tons of fan-fare.  He is a unique figure in the entertainment business.  He really understands the intricacies of mystery and how to perfectly manipulate the audience member so that he is brought to the edge of his seat, jaw-dropped, during the climax and then wholly satisfied at the conclusion.  I am overly excited about what the future holds with J.J. Abrams at the top of his game.  With Lost coming to an end after Season 6 and Fringe on its way to Season 2, I am positive he is well underway creating new mysteries to be witnessed and new characters to be introduced to.  While I am enjoying the films and TV series that are currently released and on-air, respectively, I wait with open arms and an open mind to see what Abrams has up his sleeve next.
