Movie poster: ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’

The new poster celebrating Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot finds Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker living among the shadows, perched high and casting down the iconic Spidey signal. The intriguing tagline tells the audience to expect The Amazing Spider-Man to tell “The Untold Story” of Peter Parker’s transformation into the webbed superhero. We’ll soon see how the origin story differs from Sam Raimi’s 2002 effort when the reboot hits theatres July 3, 2012.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ prologue hits theatres December 16 (new movie poster enclosed)

Though the summer 2012 release of The Dark Knight Rises seems like it’s ages away, director Christopher Nolan wants to satiate eager fans now by releasing a 6-minute prologue into theatres later this month. The prologue, which will introduce Batman’s latest villain Bane (played by Tom Hardy) to moviegoers, will play in front of select IMAX screenings of Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol starting Friday December 16. Remember when Warner Bros. showed off the opening bank heist sequence from The Dark Knight in front of the Will Smith-starrer I Am Legend back in 2008? The studio is doing it again with Nolan’s final Batman movie in the Christian Bale-starring trilogy. This is being done for two reasons: one, it’s a great way to publicize the upcoming movie and get people talking about it; and two, the thrill and immersion of the early IMAX experience will make audiences opt for the pricier ticket when the film releases in full next year.

In an interview with EW, Nolan talked about how much his next film was actually shot in 70mm for IMAX. “We shot about twice what we did last time [on The Dark Knight], at least. Last time we were about 25 minutes [in IMAX]. Obviously, I haven’t cut [the rest of The Dark Knight Rises] yet, so I don’t know the exact running time, but I think we’ll be in the 45 to 50 minute range. Basically all the actions sequences, and some of the more large-scale other bits of the film that aren’t necessarily action. We even shot some dialogue scenes and some quite intimate dramatic scenes, which we haven’t done before. And so some of that will make its way into the film.”

I will reiterate that the prologue will only play in front of Mission: Impossible in select IMAX theatres. Look after the break for a listing of the theatres (provided by Deadline) and confirm with theatres that they’re playing it before making a purchase.

Bonus! Check out the brand spankin’ new poster for The Dark Knight Rises above. It features the villainous Bane who seems to have “broken the Bat” just like he does in the comics. The tagline “The Legend Ends” serves as an antithesis to the movie’s title The Dark Knight Rises and so it breathes an air of mystery. Will Batman survive Nolan’s threequel? We shall find out on July 20, 2012. (Download the full-size poster here.) Continue reading ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ prologue hits theatres December 16 (new movie poster enclosed)

Trailer: ‘The Three Stooges’

Here’s our first look at the The Three Stooges from the Farrelly Brothers. Sean Hayes, Chris Diamantopoulos, and Will Sasso are Larry, Moe, and Curly, respectively, and they star in this zany, slightly nostalgic trailer that places the trio in modern day. Originally enthused about this remake, now I’m not so sure how I feel. The slapstick comedy and classic sound effects are fun, but did they really have to resort to including the cast of The Jersey Shore? The Stooges return April 4, 2012. Here’s the latest synopsis:

Left on a nun’s doorstep, Larry, Curly and Moe grow up finger-poking, nyuk-nyuking and woo-woo-wooing their way to uncharted levels of knuckleheaded misadventure. Out to save their childhood home, only The Three Stooges could become embroiled in an oddball murder plot…while also stumbling into starring in a phenomenally successful TV reality show.

Adele tops iTunes’ best-selling albums and songs lists of 2011

Apple has released lists of its music store’s best-selling albums and songs of 2011. 23-year-old singer songwriter Adele has comes out as the clear winner, topping both the best-selling album and song charts with her sophomore release 21 and the track “Rolling in the Deep,” respectively. Following 21 is Mumford & Sons’ Sigh No More, Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV, Kanye West and Jay-Z’s collaborative effort Watch the Throne, and Coldplay’s latest Mylo Xyloto. Drake’s Take Care impressively took the #8 spot on the list, having only been released last month. Moving over to the best-selling songs, LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” landed at the #2 spot, followed by Katy Perry’s “Firework”, Bruno Mars’ “Grenade”, and Cee-Lo Green’s “Forget You.” This year Apple went so far as to award artists individual distinctions, too. For obvious reasons Adele was named Artist of the Year; Wasting Light by The Foo Fighters got Album of the Year, even though it didn’t land the in the best-selling top ten list; Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks” is Song of the Year (#9 on the top ten list); and Breakthrough Artist of the Year is Nicki Minaj whose song “Super Bass” rests at #10 on the best-selling songs list. Jump after the break to see who else rounded out iTunes’ best-selling albums and songs of the year. Open iTunes to view their Rewind 2011 section for more year-end chart toppers.

Kid Cudi reveals WZRD album cover

Kid Cudi can’t keep out of the news. After releasing two tracks from his upcoming collabo album with producer Dot Da Genius, Cudder jumped back onto Twitter to share with his followers the “official logo” for his band WZRD. He confirmed that the image embedded above will in fact serve as the album cover when the still yet-to-be-titled album drops January 30. Though now all signs point to it being self titled as WZRD. Cudi went on to describe the album art as “simple, classic, iconic.”

Bonus! The same day he posted the WZRD image to Twitter, he also shared a link to Dia Frampton’s YouTube channel. Embedded after the break you’ll find an amazing cover of Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness” by The Voice runner-up. The two recently collaborated on Frampton’s new single “Don’t Kick the Chair.”

There really isn’t anything more to say than this… Kid Cudi is back and quite possibly better than ever. His Man on the Moon cuts are great, sure. But the kid named Cudi is preparing to take his fans on an entirely different kind of journey in his Wizard suit. We got a taste of what’s to come with his previous full-length release “Brake” late last month and today he’s dropped only a snippet of “Teleport 2 Me”, the first official single off his still yet-to-be-titled collabo album with producer Dot Da Genius. Plug in your Beats, turn the volume up to full blast, and teleport into Cudder’s latest magnificent, dream-like track. I dare you not to grin from ear to ear upon first listen.

Trailer: ‘The Cabin in the Woods’

At long last, Joss Whedon’s The Cabin in the Woods is going to see the light of day. The director of The Avengers teamed up with Cloverfield helmer Drew Goddard to produce a horror flick originally slated to release in 2009. Due to MGM’s filing for bankruptcy, the film was shelved indefinitely. Thankfully Lionsgate came to the rescue and agreed to distribute it.

The Cabin in the Woods involves a group of good-looking teens who decide to spend a weekend at a vacant cabin to let loose and party. And then bad things happen. It’s a situation we’ve heard time and time again, but as the tagline hints, “You think you know the story.” Yeah, I went ahead and added the emphasis. Whedon, who produced and co-wrote with director Goddard, says it’s “a straight-up, balls-out, really terrifying horror movie…it is not just a slasher in the woods. It’s a little more complicated than that…” And if you screen the trailer above, you’ll see what he means by that. Sure, these kids are getting tortured just like in the classics (and the awful remakes I must admit), but the story is twisted and elevated a few notches higher when it starts to involve creepy voyeurs and a honeycomb-like forcefield that’s keeping the gang from escaping the woods. Will it rise above the recent slew of crappy horror flicks? With Whedon and Goddard behind the words and direction, I have no doubt The Cabin in the Woods will be a suspenseful thrill ride worth the price of admission. I’ve only watched this trailer like ten times and I’m ready to wait in line!

The Cabin in the Woods, which can now be considered a horror/sci-fi mashup, makes its way to theatres April 13, 2012. It stars Dollhouse alum Fran Kranz and Amy Acker, along with Tom Lenk (Buffy, Angel),  Jesse Williams, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Brian White, and a pre-Thor Chris Hemsworth. Want to know what else is intriguing about all this? Big-name stars Richard Jenkins (Let Me In) and Bradley Whitford (The West Wing) are no where to be found in this trailer. Chew on that for a while. Then take a look at the trippy movie poster after the break. Continue reading Trailer: ‘The Cabin in the Woods’

It’s being reported that Fox and Imagine are currently narrowing down a list of five potential directors. And here’s the best bit of news: the studio hopes to start shooting the flick as early as April 2012. That is when Sutherland’s schedule opens up; he is currently working on the upcoming FOX drama Touch.

CBS announces 2012 midseason schedule

Unlike the other big networks, CBS typically doesn’t add many new programs to its lineup and shuffle them around for midseason. And this year is no different for the Eye. Only two major announcements here: The new half-hour comedy Rob (formally titled ¡Rob!) premieres Thursday January 12 at 8:30PM; it takes over for Rules of Engagement which CBS promises will return with new episodes in the spring. Rob stars Rob Schneider as a bachelor who marries into a tight-knit Mexican family. The second change is the comeback of Undercover Boss. The reality series will replace The Amazing Race in the Sunday night 8PM slot. CBS also says the reality competition series will return for another season later in 2012. Cop drama The 2-2 (recently renamed NYC 22) has yet to be scheduled. And that’s it.

After the break you’ll find the new Thursday and Sunday CBS lineups mapped out. Continue reading CBS announces 2012 midseason schedule

Christopher Nolan & Tom Hardy on ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ villain Bane

In an interview with UK’s Empire magazine, director Christopher Nolan shared his vision for the latest Batman villain Bane and actor Tom Hardy expressed what it is like to play the “brutal” character. Here are the juiciest excerpts:

Nolan:

On Bane: “With Bane, we are looking to give Batman a physical challenge that he hasn’t had before,” says the film’s director, Christopher Nolan. “With our choice of villain and with our choice of story we’re testing Batman both physically as well as mentally. Also, in terms of finishing our story and increasing its scope, we were trying to craft an epic, so the physicality of the film became very important. Bane’s a very different kind of villain than Batman has faced before in our films. He’s a great sort of movie monster, but with an incredible brain, and that was a side of him that hadn’t been tapped before. Because the stories from the comics are very epic and very evocative — very much in the way that Bruce Wayne’s origin story is epic and evocative. We were looking to really parallel that with our choice of villain. So he is a worthy adversary. What Bane represents in the comics is the ultimate physical villain.”

About casting Tom Hardy in the role: “He has this incredible disjunct between the expressiveness of the voice and the stillness of the movement of his body. He’s found a way to play a character who is enormous and powerful with a sort of calm to it, but also is able to be incredibly fast at times. Unpredictable. He just has a raw threat to him that’s extraordinary. It’s a very powerful thing when you see it come together, beyond what I had ever imagined. That’s what you get from working with great actors.”

Tom Hardy:

On Bane: “He’s brutal, brutal. He’s expedient delivery of brutality. And you know, he’s a big dude. He’s a big dude who’s incredibly clinical, in the fact that he has a result-based and orientated fighting style. The result is clear. “Do you know what I mean? It’s: f**k off and die. Quicker. Quicker. Everything is thought out way before. He’s hit you, he’s already hit somebody else. It’s not about fighting. It’s just about carnage with Bane. He’s a smashing machine. He’s a wrecking ball. The style is heavy-handed, heavy-footed, it’s nasty. Anything from small joint manipulation to crushing skulls, crushing rib cages, stamping on shins and knees and necks and collarbones and snapping heads off and tearing his fists through chests, ripping out spinal columns. It’s anything he can get away with. He is a terrorist in his mentality as well as brutal action. So he’s horrible. A really horrible piece of work.”

About filming the fight scenes: “It’s very overwhelming. When you’re training in a rehearsal room you go, ‘Okay, I have a contact with seven people. This guy I chin, this one I slip and I punch, this one I pick up and suplex, this guy I kick in the face, and this one, he stops a hammer with his head. And then I meet Batman.’ That’s all alright in a rehearsal room, but then you add 1,000 people that are all dressed the same as the seven you’re supposed to hit — ’cause they’re all police officers — and I don’t know where my police officers are. But the stuntmaster’s like, ‘Don’t worry. They will find you.’”

About Christian Bale’s Batman: “He looks really intimidating! There’s a three-year-old in me that’s going, ‘Oh my God that’s Batman! That’s Batman and he’s going to hit me! But I love Batman!’ Then I look in the mirror. And I hit him back. Twice as hard.”

The Dark Knight Rises hits theatres July 20, 2012.
