‘The Cape’ is dead and gone

And here is your proof. TVShowsOnDVD has managed to get their hands on this image of the DVD packaging for NBC’s failed series The Cape. Notice the branding: The Cape: The Complete Series. Typically networks release DVDs with the marking “The Complete First (or second or third) Season,” and as you can see that is not the case here. Nail, meet coffin. We all saw this coming, didn’t we? First the network decreased the show’s episode count by three, and then it refused to broadcast the series finale and put it online. I never want to even think about this show ever again. Yes, it was that bad.

TV Reminder: Steve Carell departs ‘The Office’ tonight

Oh, I can already feel the tears swelling up. Tonight’s episode of The Office is called “Goodbye, Michael” and it will be the final episode starring the brilliantly talented Steve Carell.

The Office boss is going out with a bang, thankfully. The super-sized episode is extended from a half hour to fifty minutes in length; it will air from 9PM to 9:50PM, followed by a beefier episode of Parks and Rec (9:50PM-10:30PM) to soften the blow.

Don’t miss Michael Scott’s swan song tonight (4/28) at 9PM on NBC. The Office will attempt to forge on without him; two more episode will follow, then the season seven finale airs May 19. Perhaps this impressive slate of upcoming special guests will have you excited for the final three episodes. Will Ferrell, Ricky Gervais, Ray Romano, James Spader, Catherine Tate, Will Arnett, and Jim Carrey will all be vying for Michael Scott’s managerial position at Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch! TV Reminder: South Parks returns tonight at 10PM on Comedy Central

HUMANCENTiPAD

The boys of South Park return tonight! For the season fifteen premiere, Trey Parker and Matt Stone have something quite disturbing in store for us. What do you get when you bring together Apple’s iPad and the Dutch horror film The Human Centipede. Well, um, the “HUMANCENTiPAD” of course! And that is the title of tonight’s episode. It’s bound to be a riot. Watch a cartoony Steve Jobs introduce the revolutionary new product in the preview above and tune into Comedy Central at precisely 10PM for the goods.

Trailer: Immortals

300 meets Clash of the Titans in this trailer for the upcoming Greek mythological epic Immortals. Looks fun and stylistically gorgeous. Henry Cavill (soon to be the Man of Steel) and Mickey Rourke star as the Greek warrior Theseus and the mad King Hyperion, respectively. Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire), John Hurt, Kellan Lutz, Isabel Lucas, Luke Evans and Stephen Dorff round out the cast. The Tarsem Singh-directed Immortals hits theatres November 11, 2011.

Trailer: Another Earth

This trailer for the Fox Searchlight movie Another Earth piqued my interest the other day, thought I’d share it with you. Newcomer Brit Marling (who wrote, produced, and stars in this film) invites us to a time when our world discovers a nearby planet that also provides a home for advanced life forms. They call it Earth 2. The sci-fi elements seem interesting, but at the heart of the film lies a human drama and you will see what I mean after watching the trailer. The movie also stars William Mapother who played Ethan Rom on Lost. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. There it received high praise and it won the Alfred P. Sloan Prize for “focusing on science or technology as a theme, or depicting a scientist, engineer or mathematician as a major character.” Fox Searchlight picked it up and will distribute it in the US and Canada on July 22, 2011.

Synopsis: In Another Earth, Rhoda Williams (Marling), a bright young woman accepted into MIT’s astrophysics program, aspires to explore the cosmos. A brilliant composer, John Burroughs (Mapother), has just reached the pinnacle of his profession and is about to have a second child. On the eve of the discovery of a duplicate Earth, tragedy strikes and the lives of these strangers become irrevocably intertwined.

Remix: Britney Spears – “Till The World Ends” (Featuring Nicki Minaj & Ke$ha)

Still can’t get Britney Spears’ club banger single “Till The World Ends” out of your head? This is no cure. The Femme Fatale has rounded up other pop superstars Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha to join her on the catchy track. In this slightly altered version of the song, Nicki looks inside herself, locates her alter egos, and starts the song with this new intro: “Chimpanzees is hatin’, but I take it all in stride/ Put her in a jungle with bananas on the side/ Told you they’d revive your career, but somebody lied/ I ain’t talkin’ poultry when I say this chicken’s fried.” Then she explodes into a full on rap verse in a way only Barbie can impress. Ke$ha, who co-wrote the bumping track, hops onto the chorus later on. Listen here:

Update (4/25): Today Britney let loose the final version of the remix. You can listen to it right here. It does sound cleaner. Also, take a gander at the official single art pasted above.

Update 2: Now available to buy on iTunes.

Kid Cudi renames his band, gives one to new label

This week Kid Cudi kicked off his Cud Life Tour in Hollywood and then brought his talent to New York City where he made back-to-back-to-back live appearances at the Roseland Ballroom. I happened to attend the second NYC show, and it was during this set that Lonely Stoner (no more) made two big announcements concerning his future plans. First, he decided to change the name of his band. As any Cudi fan should know by now, the rapper’s teaming up with producer Dot Da Genius to form a rock/rap band for his next album. Originally Cudder named the band Wizard but just recently he made a change. Henceforth the Cudi/Dot collab band is to be referred to as 2 Be Continuum. At the concert Cudi explained, “When I went into iTunes and I put in Wizard there was like five bands named Wizard. I needed something more original, something different.” Though the original name has been scraped Cudi promises his music is “still wizardry at its finest.” We can expect the first sampling from 2 Be Continuum to drop later this summer. During the same break in song, Cudi announced the name of his new label and that’s called Wicked Awesome Records. But of course! And now you can peek after the break to watch Cudder drop all the details himself. Continue reading Kid Cudi renames his band, gives one to new label

Super 8 gets interactive inside Portal 2

Valve’s Portal 2 just came out this past Tuesday, and it’s already being touted as the year’s best game. In an interesting move, Paramount turned to the game’s developers to insert this interactive trailer for the upcoming sci-fi flick Super 8. Gamers can move around the universe built by J.J. Abrams by accessing “Super 8” inside Portal‘s main menu under Extras. Lazy? You can watch it unfold in the video above. It’s nothing particularly exciting, but it’s neat to see the train wreck we’ve come to know and question come alive in video game form.

HBO renews ‘Game of Thrones’ after a decent debut in the ratings

Well that was quick. Just two after its series premiere, HBO has gone ahead and renewed fantasy series Game of Thrones for a second season. The next season will bow next year (a specific timeline has not been worked out yet), and it will be based on George R.R. Martin’s next book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, A Clash of Kings.

Michael Lombardo, president of HBO: “We are delighted by the way David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have brought George R.R. Martin’s amazing book series to the screen, and thrilled by the support of the media and our viewers. This is the continuation of an exciting creative partnership.”

No matter how the show did in the ratings it was destined to return for at least second season. Adapting Martin’s vast world of Westeros is a huge undertaking, there’s no way it all would have been squandered after just one hack at it. It did, however, fare decently in the ratings. 2.2 million viewers tuned into the 9PM premiere; for comparison’s sake this is down 54% from the Boardwalk Empire premiere which drew 4.8 million viewers in September. HBO was smart to air the premiere in three time-slots and across their various channels Sunday night. They picked up an additional 1.2 million and 800,000 viewers for the second and third telecasts, respectively. All together, a solid 4.2 million people watched the Game of Thrones premiere that night, and we’ll have to wait and see how these numbers hold up come next Sunday. Whatever the case, fans of the book series can rejoice in knowing that so much more is in the works.

Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9PM on HBO.

Cancelled FOX show ‘Running Wilde’ to conclude its ratings-deprived debut season later this month on FX

So FOX has officially cancelled the short lived Mitch Hurwitz comedy Running Wilde. No surprise there. After just nine episodes aired the network decided to cut it from the schedule in November. The lingering questions remained: what’s going to happen to the additional four episodes produced? will they ever see the light of day? The answer, I am excited to say, is yes! FOX is allowing its sibling cable channel FX to air the remaining four episodes starting April 28 at 10PM. Wilde fans, mark your calenders and anticipate the brief return of Steve, Emmy, and Puddle…and then prepare to say goodbye once again.
