Jimmy Fallon to host the next Emmys

It was just announced that Late Night host Jimmy Fallon will host the 62nd Primetime Emmys.  Paul Telegdy, NBC executive VP of alternative programming, shares his excitement about the decision: “Jimmy was the natural choice as one of the most promising and likable young entertainers who will now have the chance to display his many talents on television’s biggest night.  His proven skills as a comedian and host — as well as his openness to new ideas — will fully engage audiences and ultimately deliver a lively Emmy telecast.”  And here’s what Jimmy had to say about it: “Hosting the Emmys has been a dream of mine ever since they told me I was doing it.”  Ha!

The Emmys will air August 29 at 8PM ET on NBC.

This past Sunday former The Tonight Show host Conan O’Brien appeared on television for the first time since he was outed back in December.  In an interview with 60 Minutes‘ Steve Kroft, he shed some light on his feelings towards NBC and Jay Leno.  He also made sure to let America know he is doing just fine.  He’s having a blast on tour (it saved him from nosediving into depression and dispair) and he’s really looking forward to his new show on TBS set to debut in November.  Look after the break for a bunch of extra videos 60 Minutes posted to the ‘Net.

Single: Drake – “Find Your Love”

“Find Your Love” is the second single off Drake’s upcoming debut album Thank Me Later, due out June 15.  It’s no surprise that Kanye West produced the track.  His fingerprints can be found all over it; the heavy melodic beat takes cues from many of West’s hits off 808’s & Heartbreak.  Drake shared some kind words about Ye with MTV News:

“Before I ever got the chance to meet him, Kanye West shaped a lot of what I do, as far as music goes. We always, always, always took the time to listen to Kanye’s music and appreciate it beyond. We searched the samples and find out where his inspiration came from, because he has one of the best ears in music, period. He knows how to recognize great music that’s not his. He knows how to utilize great sounds and great music. So before I met him, I had the utmost respect for Kanye West. I’d even go as far as to say he’s the most influential person, as far as a musician, that I’d ever had in my life.”

This single is Drake’s third collab with West.  Previously they worked together on “Forever” (along with Lil Wayne & Eminem) and West directed Drake’s first music video for “Best I Ever Had.”  Drake just wrapped up the music video for “Find Your Love” in Jamaica, so be on the look out for that.

But for now, take a listen to the track below and download it here.  (It looks like the download link was taken down due to bandwith issues.  It should be back soon.)  Drake straight up sings in this one, about relationships.  He calls it “an extremely vulnerable song” and a “huge risk” because “it almost feels like the song should be performed by a woman.  I’m just hoping that men really hear the song and they’re honest with themselves.  I know a lot of men feel that way.”  After a first listen I’m not hooked yet.  But then again, I felt the same way with “Over” and now that’s one of my top played songs.

Jonah Hex is an upcoming horror Western film based on the DC Comics characher.  It stars Josh Brolin as Hex, Megan Fox as Leila (a prostitute!), John Malkovich as baddie Quentin Turnbull, Michael Shannon as Doctor Cross Williams, and Michael Fassbender as Burke.  Directed by Jimmy Hayward and written by Akiva Goldsman and Andrew Lazar.  Synopsis:

Having cheated death, gunslinger and bounty hunter Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) has one foot in the natural world and one in the supernatural realm. Jonah’s unusual nature gives him the ability to track down anyone, or anything, so the Army makes him an irresistible offer: They’ll erase the warrants on his head if Jonah will find Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich). But Turnbull, who is preparing to unleash hell on earth, is Jonah’s oldest enemy and will stop at nothing to kill him once and for all.

Jonah Hex hits theatres June 18, 2010.

Wes Craven signs up for new Scream trilogy

It has been a full ten years since Scream 3 hit the scene, can you believe it?  And with that special anniversary comes some exciting news: original director Wes Craven has signed up to direct a brand new trilogy that aims to redefine the horror genre yet again.  Dimension Films will back the movies and Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette are set to reprise their roles as Sid, Gale, and Dewey, respectively.  Though he couldn’t reveal Scream 4′s plot (it’s still being written!), Craven did shed some light on what we can expect:

There have been 10 years of no Ghostface, but there has been the movie-within-a-movie Stab. We have fun with the idea of endless sequels, or “sequelitis” as Kevin calls it in the script. Sid goes through these three horrendous things, and Stab was based on those horrible things. And then they’ve been taken by a studio and run into the ground in a series of sequels. She has been off by herself and living her own life, and she’s even written a book that has gotten a lot of critical acclaim. She’s kind of put her life back together in the course of these 10 years. But, certainly, there would be no Scream without Ghostface, so she has to confront him again, but now as a woman who has really come out the darkness of her past.

He also said we can expect the rated-R stamp and a classic Ghostface murder at the start of the film.  Where does the line start?

Avatar breaks Blu-ray sales records

Can’t say you’re surprised, can you?  Avatar quickly became the best selling Blu-ray of all time after just four days on store shelves.   2.7 million Blu-ray copies were sold in North America alone, smashing the previous record of 2.5 million units sold by The Dark Knight.  For a Blu-ray set that includes no extra features, I’d say this is quite the feat.  Click here for more information about the future releases (w/ extra features, 3D support, etc.).

Glee tour gets detailed

With the Glee tour set to begin May 15 in Phoenix, AZ it’s no surprise that tour details are starting to trickle out.  Executive producer and tour director Ryan Murphy shared the scoop with EW.  “We’re gonna do between 15 and 18 numbers.  We made a decision to do our biggest hits because that’s what fans want to see.  It’s a concert tour but it also has a story in it.”  According to EW, the story involves the rivalry between Shue’s New Directions and Vocal Adrenaline.  Murphy is super excited about the tour, maybe because the set is designed by Lady Gaga’s designer.  “It’s a huge stage.  We’ve got multimedia.  It’s really big.  Fox believes in it so much that they’ve hired the best people.  It’s not about going out and selling out a lot of dates and making a lot of money.  In fact, we won’t make any money with this first tour because we’ve put so much money into the set design.  It’s really just a great thank you to our fans.”  Aw, how thoughtful.  Too bad all the venues sold out in under a minute!
