Lost Mock Theme Contest

I smell a contest…and boar.  They guys behind Lost are posing this question to their loyal fans:  ‘If Lost had a theme song during its main title screen, what would it be?’  Sounds like fun.

According to the official website:  “A call to all Dharma Bassists, Bassoonists, Bandurists, Bouzouki players, Cellists, Clarinetists, Drummers, Electronic Musicians, Flautists, Guitarists, Harpists, Hornists, Keyboardists, Oboists, Pianists, Percussionists, Saxophonists, Sawists, Sitarists, Trombonists, Trumpeters, Tubists, Violinists, and any and all alike…. For this year’s Comic-Con panel, our theme is about giving back to YOU…the fans!!! It is because of you that we are celebrating our 5th year at Comic-Con, and we would love to incorporate your astounding creativity. We’d like to feature YOUR ideal version of what you think a LOST title song would be (if the show had one). Over the years, we’ve been witness to your incredibly innovative pieces on LOST, and would love to hear your fetchy melody for LOST which you were waiting to share!”

Sci Fi mutates into Syfy

“Sci Fi Channel has a new name, but it sounds the same: Syfy.”  As of Tuesday, July 7th, the Sci Fi channel rebranding is in full effect.  Sci Fi is now Syfy, and the tagline is now “Imagine Greater.”  The decision to make the change came in March 2009 when the cable giant decided it was time for a broadening of its viewership.  Don’t worry Sci Fi fans; although there is a name change and an overhaul of the branding and website, the new Syfy keeps the same programming lineup as before, with a new addition: Warehouse 13 and Caprikia, the prequel series to Battlestar Galactica.  On a personal note, I happen to enjoy the “Twilight Zone” marathons they air from time to time.

Anchorman 2 underway?

I love scotch.  Scotchy, scotch, scotch.  Here it goes down, down into my belly…

Yeah, you read that correctly–ANCHORMAN 2 is in the works!  During a press event for his current movie Land of the Lost, funnyman Will Ferrell told a local radio station the “he expected to meet with Paul Rudd and Steve Carell “next week” to discuss ideas…and salaries: “[Because] believe me, I’m not taking a pay-cut. No way!”  Rumors of an Anchorman sequel go as far back as last year when Ferrell told EW.com that he and “director Adam McKay were working on a followup that would bring classy 1970s newsman Ron Burgandy into the 1980s.”  McKay has said “the audience will now allow us to do even crazier stuff, and that’s really all we’re looking for in our careers.”  Great Odin’s raven, this is good news.  Check after the break (click “…more”) to celebrate!

Jeff Goldblum is alive and well

Contrary to what people have tweeted, actor Jeff Goldblum is still breathing.  Shortly after MJ passed away, the Twitterverse rapidly spread what is now a comical rumor that Goldblum had passed away on the set of a film in New Zealand.  He did not die and he is currently in Los Angeles.  Mr. Stephen Colbert tackles this rumor head on with a special guest (wonder who that may be?).

Music video: Mr Hudson – “Supernova” (Featuring Kanye West)

Simply put, G.O.O.D. music artist Mr Hudson is going to be HUGE.  Hailing from London, England, Mr Hudson was signed on Kanye West’s music label not too long ago, and he will definitely straight a chord with Kanye and Coldplay fans alike.  He has this unique sound and aura about him that is very distinctive yet familiar.  Anyway…here is the music video for his first single called “Supernova,” which happens to feature Mr. West.  It is an awesome and inventive music video’ you can sense the ‘Kanye touch.’  Mr Hudson’s new album, Straight No Chaser, will be in stores on October 5, 2009 (unfortunately pushed back from its original August release date).  In related news, it has been confirmed that Kid Cudi will be featured on the track “Everything is Broken.”

Billy Mays, pitchman (1958-2009)

Billy Mays, infomercial king, died of an apparent heart attack over the weekend.  His products, brands, and strong and identifiable personality will live on.  When I first saw an Oxi Clean commercial many years ago, I was so annoyed by it.  As time went on though, I found a place in my heart not only for cleaning products, but also for infomercial maven Mr. Billy Mays.   Rest in peace, Billy Mays.

Check after the break (click “more…”) for a very recent Billy Mays interview with Conan O’Brien, a video of some funny outtakes, a very young Billy Mays on HSN promoting Oxi Clean, and an Oxi Clean commercial. Continue reading Billy Mays, pitchman (1958-2009)
