The Beatles x Bape

Japanese clothing brand Bape has teamed up with Apple Corp. Ltd. to fashion out new Beatles-inspired Bape t-shirts, sweaters, and coin pouches.  This follows Apple Corp. Ltd.’s collaboration with COMME des GARCONS that features Beatles-branded t-shirts and bags.  The latter collab is expected to sell later this month, but there’s no word on the Bape set.  With The Beatles Rock Band and now all these clothes it seems like The Beatles are taking over yet again.  Fine by me.

Google announces Chrome OS; “what if your browser was your operating system?”

Today Google revealed its take on the operating system.  And it’s called Chrome OS.  What’s that you say?  You’ve heard of Google Chrome, you are using it right now?  Google Chrome is a browser, just like Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Mozilla’s Firefox.  What Google has announced is an operating system (think Microsoft Windows or Apple Mac OS X) that runs in the Chrome browser skin.  The desktop and the entire workplace resides in what looks very much like the Google Chrome browser you may be using today.  The team at Google knows that when most people turn on their computer they go directly to their browser of choice to access the Internet.  Their plan is to streamline this process by making the browser the home base of your computer.

Now let’s talk hard facts.  Chrome OS is based on Linux and the current Chrome browser.  It is entirely web-based and only runs web apps.  All your storage will live in the Internet “cloud;”  this means that all of your data (documents, music, pictures, etc.) will be stored online.  Local hard drives will only be accessed to cache data and keep your computer speedy.  Think of the cloud in the same terms you think of how your email is handled.  You don’t download your email messages to your hard drive; it is all stored on the Internet, whether you use AOL Mail, Gmail, whatever.  An advantage of an OS based on the cloud: You can take your virtual space with you everywhere; all you need handy is your login information and a Chrome OS-capable computer to sign in and access all your data.  The OS itself is “light;” it will take just seconds to fully boot up your computer.  And this is  one of Google’s main goals: to get you on the Internet as fast and safe as possible.  Speaking of safety, Chrome OS will be highly resistive to viruses and malware; Google has designed a security layer based on its own binaries and the OS easily upgradable with over-the-Internet updates for the entire OS.

Coke design concept is green-friendly

Designed by Harc Lee.

A convex logo substitutes colorfully sprayed can. Naked can help to reduce air and water pollution occurred in its coloring process. It also reduces energy and effort to separate toxic color paint from aluminum in recycling process. Huge amount of energy and paint required to manufacture colored cans will be saved. Instead of toxic paint, manufacturers process aluminum with a pressing machine that indicates brand identity on surface.

Address label finds fault with Esquire’s ‘magic’ issue

Yeah so remember when I posted about Esquire’s attempt to re-energize the zine industry with the inclusion of augmented reality tricks hidden within its latest issue?  Well look what we have here.  In order to augment your reality (ie. see Downey Jr. jump around on the page) you need to point a special-coded marker to your computer’s webcam.  It looks like customers are receiving the issue with the address label covering the marker on the cover page!  WTF, indeed.

Esquire has commented on the matter.  And that can be read after the break if you so choose to do so.

‘Dancepants Kinetic Music Player’

Designed by Inesa Malafej and Arunas Sukarevicius (from Lithuania).

The “Dancepants” convert kinetic energy from your rapid movement into electricity to run your MP3 player.  In layman’s terms: you run and the music plays; you stop running and the music stops playing.  The designers say the leggings are a “100 percent interactive way to feel the value of energy on your own.”

Pretty neat way to keep you going at a fast pace when exercising or making a quick dash to your next class.  If you want your beats to keep playing you gotta shake your groove thang, shake your groove thang.

Concept: ‘Milky Way’ alarm clock

Conceptualized by Henrik Amberla.

The creator of the Milky Way chose the shape in order to “reflect on the duality and unity of the sleep/wake cycle.”  To engage the snooze function you simply turn the device.  Setting the clock and the alarm is also done through another turning motion.

Ah, to wake up to such a smooth, chocolatey nougat-filled–oh wait, that’s Three Musketeers.  Anyway, cool idea.

Dress made of 24,000 LED lights

Designed by Francesca Rosella and Ryan Genz of CuteCircuit.

The GalaxyDress provides a spectacular and mesmerizing effect being embroidered with 24000 color LEDs, it is the largest wearable display in the world. Constructed using the smallest full-color LEDs that are flat like paper and measuring only 2 by 2 mm.

Says the duo: “The circuits are extra-thin, flexible and hand-embroidered on a layer of silk in a way that gives it stretch so the LED fabric can move like normal fabric with lightness and fluidity.”  They add that the dress uses the same amount of electricity as two household bulbs.
