Verizon is packing the heat with ‘Droid Does’ viral campaign

APPLE, WATCH OUT.  Verizon is taking the battle to you, not AT&T, with this advertisement that is pushing over the airwaves on major networks such as FOX.

The 30 second spot begins with a bunch of “iDon’t” phrases, clearly bashing the Apple iPhone for all the things it can’tdo.  This plays alongside an Apple commercial-esque playful tune.  About 20 seconds in the viral fun begins.  The phrase “Droid Does” forms in a futuristic and mechanistic way and it leaves the viewer with a hint: something is coming in November.  Those who closely watched the ad caught the text visible on the bottom of the screen.  This is a commercial for Verizon, and, interestingly, Verizon had to state that “Droid is a registered trademark of Lucasfilm Ltd., licensed to Verizon.”  (It seems as if Mr. George Lucas owns the word “droid.”)

Anyway..after further investigation, all signs point to this being a commercial for Verizon’s first Android-powered cell phone, properly called “Droid.”  (For all you fellow techies, its code-name was Sholes.)  This device is developed by Motorola and will run Google’s Android operating system, version 2.0.  The teaser page includes an “alien counter” that has been decyphered; the timer ends on October 30.  Will more information be released about this mystery device on that date?  We shall wait and see…

Well, looks like we don’t have to wait thatlong for some new info.  The fellas at Boy Genius Report have captured some images of the Motorola Droid.  Here’s a summation of their “hands-on:” it runs Android 2.0; it’s very thin (for a QWERTY smartphone); it’s fast; it has a 3.7 inch capacitive display; it runs on a TI OMAP3430 processor; it has a 5-megapixel camera (with flash).  Will report on more information as it comes.  For now, check out images of the Droid below.

Kanye West’s Pasttell clothing line makes an appearence, yet still nowhere in sight

So here’s a long story made short.

Rapper Kanye West first introduced his concept clothing line called Pastelle in Spring 2006.  Over three years later, we still do not have any definitive information about it.  Although it appears Kanye has worn nunmerous peices from what is now called the Past-Tell line, not a single article of clothing or accessories have been released yet.  According to its Wikipedia page, Kanye has made it known that “The first Pastelle Clothing store will open up late 2009 in Chicago — followed by the New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco launch.”  The website Past.Tell.Museum has been idle ever since its creation.

Today the blog The Black Nouveau has “sourced” three photos of what may be future Pasttell jackets and shirts.  As the official announcement of the clothing line keeps getting pushed year after year, I’m skeptical if Pasttell will ever become a reality.  Now, though, with Kanye taking a break from touring, maybe he will find some time to fulfill the promise he made three years ago.

Want your bathroom to be “out of this world?” This stunning sci-fi bathtub by Spiritual Mode is just the thing to send all your senses awhirl! The Beignet bathtub features fashion and function, and is designed to relax and rejuvenate. Water fills the tub via two ultra-modern taps. The soft, circular shape is soothing to the sight, while water jets along the tub’s base will calm you at the end of a long day. A great addition to contemporary bathroom design, this stylish new bathtub brings technology, luxury and elegance to “me time.”

True, it looks like a UFO landed in your bathroom.  Still the modern look and the architectural detail of each piece makes for the coolest bathtub I have ever seen.

Burger King to receive a ‘futuristic’ renovation

Burger King restaurants will be undergoing a significant renovation, transforming their bland, generic fast-food look into a more modern and futuristic model.  According to BK Chairman and CEO John Chidsey: “I’d call it more contemporary, edgy, futuristic.  It feels so much more like an upscale restaurant.”  The revovation, dubbed “20/20,” will affect 12,000 BK restaurants worldwide and will cost between $300,000 to $600,000 per restaurant.  The renovations include “rotating red flame chandeliers, TV-screen menus, and industrial-inspired corrugated metal and brick walls.”  The redesign has already begun and has affected about 60 percent of BK locations globally.  BK has stated that 75 additional restaurants will be transformed by this year’s end, but it will take years for all BK locations to be retrofitted.

Will such a drastic change in look help the BK Lounge in sales and gain an edge against its competition (re: McDonalds)?  It is too early too tell.  I’m just looking forward to playing around with the touch-screen menus.
