Seth Meyers invites Jon Snow to dinner, Sesame Street plays ‘Game of Chairs’ in latest ‘Game of Thrones’ parodies

What would happen if you invited the bastard Jon Snow to a dinner party? Late Night with Seth Meyers answers that question in full in the latest high-profile Game of Thrones parody. Kit Harrington, Snow’ portrayer on HBO’s hit fantasy drama, is totally game here and the laughs are plentiful. But only if you’re properly educated–spoilers abound. As is the case with the best kind of parodies, I wouldn’t want to say any more than I already have for your enjoyment. So with that, have at it!

One more thing. Be sure to jump after the break to watch yet another recent Thrones parody, this one hailing from an unlikely source–Sesame Street! Then again, we all know by now the furry friends can pull off entertaining spoofs; see their previously released House of Cards treatment for proof.

Game of Thrones resumes this Sunday, April 12 on HBO.

Update: Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele of Comedy Central’s Key & Peele are getting in on the fun with one outrageous “recap” video featuring the comedy duo’s famously over-excited valet characters. ‘True Detective’ season 2 gets teaser, description & premiere date [Update: New posters & trailer]

Can creator Nic Pizzolatto top the dramatic darkness and cinematic captivation that was True Detective season 1? The jury is still out on that, but today we proceed one step closer to finding out if such a feat is possible.

HBO released the first teaser trailer for True Detective season 2, which features a brand new cast and story set in an entirely different location, Los Angeles. Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, and Taylor Kitsch are the leads and you explore their character descriptions in the just-released synopsis below. Jump into the gallery to view character portraits.

A bizarre murder brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California. Colin Farrell is Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective in the all-industrial City of Vinci, LA County. Vince Vaughn plays Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his life’s work, while his wife and closest ally (Kelly Reilly), struggles with his choices and her own. Rachel McAdams is Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective often at odds with the system she serves, while Taylor Kitsch plays Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle cop for the California Highway Patrol who discovers a crime scene which triggers an investigation involving three law enforcement groups, multiple criminal collusions, and billions of dollars.

The 60-second teaser works even without any dialogue; empowering it are moody shots of the all-star cast in top form, as well as an original tune performed by Lera Lynn, co-written by Roseanne Cash, and produced by T. Bone Burnett (he’s the music man behind the powerful score that backed season 1). So far, so great.

True Detective premieres Sunday, June 21 on HBO.

Update: Eye the official key art below, and jump after the break to watch a new trailer–this time with dialogue!

‘Orange is the New Black’ returns this summer–are you ready for more crazy (Eyes)?

Missing the ladies of Litchfield? Well, I’m happy to report that Netflix is raring to bring them all back to your screen of choice this summer when Orange is the New Black returns for its third season. Though the two-minute trailer embedded above and the following synopsis down below provide little in terms of upcoming plot lines, the outrageously addicting drama and humor you’ve come to know and love from OITNB remains.

With a crisis of faith and their beliefs and loyalties being tested, each character must decide what and who to believe in.

Mark your calendars for the next Great Binge; Piper, Red, Crazy Eyes, and the rest of the orange jumpsuit crew return June 12.

Preview Sundance breakout ‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl’

Here’s the debut trailer for Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, a breakout hit from this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The story hails from author Jesse Andrews; he adapted his 2012 novel of the same name for the big screen. You may recognize its stars Thomas Mann and Olivia Cooke from Project X and TV’s Bates Motel, respectively. Also starring is Connie Britton (Nashville), Nick Offerman (Parks & Rec), Molly Shannon (SNL), Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead), and Ronald Cyler II. Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (American Horror Story) directs.

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is the uniquely funny, moving story of Greg (Thomas Mann), a high school senior who is trying to blend in anonymously, avoiding deeper relationships as a survival strategy for navigating the social minefield that is teenage life. He even describes his constant companion Earl (RJ Cyler), with whom he makes short film parodies of classic movies, as more of a ‘co-worker’ than a best friend. But when Greg’s mom (Connie Britton) insists he spend time with Rachel (Olivia Cooke) – a girl in his class who has just been diagnosed with cancer – he slowly discovers how worthwhile the true bonds of friendship can be.

Coming out of the festival it won the coveted Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award, and critics were captivated. Positive word of mouth spread quickly, and now’s your chance to preview it in this trailer. Looks like a beautifully shot, emotional rollercoaster of a love story. What do you think?

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is out June 12.

David Letterman pounds the pavement in latest installment of ‘Billy on the Street’

Billy Eichner follows up his face time with the First Lady and Big Bird with a lightening fast round of Billy on the Street with almost-out-the-door Late Show host David Letterman. Though you might think that at this point the streets of New York City would be prepared for Eichner’s ADD-comedy, they never, ever are. Enjoy some brand new Billy on the Streetstreet, street, street.

Movie trailer round-up: ‘SPECTRE’, ‘Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation’ & ‘Entourage’

In December, director Sam Mendes introduced to the world the next Bond film, SPECTRE, with the cast and car in tow. Today, we get our first look. Daniel Craig is back as 007 for the fourth time and his past comes to haunt him here. Dangling threads from Casino RoyaleQuantum of Solace, and Skyfall come to a head in SPECTRE and Bond is forced to face the sinister Hannes Oberhauser, played already to perfection by Christoph Waltz. Though Waltz is credited as portraying Oberhauser, I had speculated that he’d end up being Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the actual head of the SPECTRE organization. (SPECTRE, remember, is an acronym that stands for SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion.) In the teaser, Waltz’ Oberhauser tells Bond, “It’s been a long time. And finally, here we are.” In Bond lore, Oberhauser served as a mentor for Bond before he mysteriously vanished; so perhaps Waltz really is Oberhauser and Blofeld’s portrayer is still being kept under wraps? So much speculation to be had here. It’s just so exciting how serialized Craig’s rendition of Bond has become in terms of his past meeting up with his present to propel the story forward. Watching this latest mystery unfold which has so much to do with Bond’s origins and his connection to SPECTRE and Oberhauser is going to be a fun ride, to say the least.

SPECTRE hits theatres November 6.

‘The Following’ spoof is a must-see for fans of the serial killer thriller

If you watch The Following on FOX, this is a real treat. To further promote the show, series executive producer and oft-director Marcos Siega put together this eight minute parody video starring Kevin Bacon as himself. Thing is, he acts just like his Following character Ryan Hardy and thinks serial killers–Joe Carroll included–are after him in real life. Co-starring is Dean Winters (currently on CBS’ Battle Creek, but you probably know him from those Allstate commercials), Joe Carroll himself James Purefoy, Michael C. Hall (Dexter, how appropriate), Sam Underwood (he plays the evil twins Mark & Luke Grey on The Following), and Bacon’s real-life wife Kyra Sedgwick makes a memorable cameo. It’s bizarre and fantastic all at the same time. With that and nothing more, enjoy.

The Following airs Mondays at 9pm on FOX.

Discover the Master Chief’s origins in ‘Halo 5: Guardians’ exploratory marketing campaign [Update: Two new trailers inside]

Microsoft’s expansive marketing campaign for Halo 5: Guardians begins now. Watch the helmet-shattering teaser trailer above and at the end you’ll notice the hashtag #HuntTheTruth. Shortly after the televised teaser launch, MSFT opened up a “Hunt the Truth” Tumbler that further explores the mystery behind the shrouded plot of the upcoming game. Fictional journalist and war photographer Benjamin Giraud hosts a weekly podcast that promises an in-depth profile of the Master Chief with an aim to uncover the truth behind his origins and motives. Fans of the Xbox franchise (myself included) are going to eat this up.

Halo 5: Guardians is expected to release this fall on Xbox One.

Update (3/29): Microsoft unleashed two extended trailers for Halo 5: Guardians tonight during the season finale of The Walking Dead on AMC. The first features Spartan Locke threatening Master Chief: “All hail the conquering hero. The one who was supposed to save us all. But now I must save us from you.” The second spot reverses the roles, with Master Chief pointing his weapon and saying, “You’ve completed your mission, Spartan Locke.” What’s happening?! See for yourself after the break. Also confirmed: the next Halo comes exclusively to Xbox One on October 27. ‘Zoolander 2’ made official by Ben Stiller & Owen Wilson crashing Paris Fashion Week in character

ORANGE MOCHA FRAPPUCCINO!

Call it the most inventive way to announce a sequel. On Tuesday, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson strutted down the Maison Valentino runway during the Paris Fashion Show as Derek Zoolander and Hansel (So hot right now. Hansel.) McDonald; by bringing back the acclaimed Blue Steel pose, they officially announced a sequel to the 2001 cult comedy Zoolander. See their surprise appearance after the break. Afterwards, Paramount made it official with a tweet revealing the film’s release date: February 12, 2016.

And the fun didn’t stop there. The really, really, ridiculously good looking duo also appeared on Instagram to promote the forthcoming Zoolander 2 by posing together and also with American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

Stiller is expected to direct again and he co-wrote the script with his Tropic Thunder collaborator Justin Theroux. Beyond Stiller and Wilson, no other casting news has been made. However, Stiller has publicly stated in the past his want for Will Ferrell to return as the villainous Mugatu.

The plot is being kept under wraps for now, but a peek at a 2010 interview between MTV and Stiller might shed light on what we can expect: “In the fashion world, if you go away for a year, it’s changed — it just happens so quickly,” he said. “I think the idea in the beginning of the movie is that it’s 10 years later, and Derek and Hansel are literally forgotten. Nobody remembers who they are, so they have to reinvent themselves.”

As a proud hardcore fan of the original, I am beyond excited to see what Stiller has in store for Derek Zoolander. The first one is jam-packed with memorable, timeless one-liners and undeniably outrageous sequences to-boot. I trust he and Theroux have cooked up a good enough story to warrant the return for these characters. I mean, what was done at the Paris Fashion Show is such an incredibly fun way to bring it all back. Can’t wait to see what happens next. Movie trailer round-up: Ryan Reynolds in sci-fi thriller ‘Self/Less’ & Disney’s ‘Tomorrowland’

Are you a fan of psychological science fiction thrillers? Self/Less should whet your appetite plenty. Ben Kingsley (Iron Man 3) stars as an extremely wealthy man dying from cancer. He doesn’t want his life to terminate earlier than expected, so he undergoes a radical medical procedure that transfers his consciousness into the body of a healthy young man, played by Ryan Reynolds (Green Lantern). It works, but it doesn’t take long for the dangerous side effects to kick in: Kingsley’s younger self starts to see glimpses of a life he does not know, experiences originating from Reynolds’ body.

It’s a very cool idea and it brings to mind the always interesting and up-for-debate conversation about who we are and what happens after death. Are we a soul and our bodies a receptacle for it? If so, do our souls move on to new bodies after dying? And do those new bodies having any sort of recollection of the soul’s past lives? I could go on and on… I’m hoping the movie explores these intriguing topics in a fun and entertaining way. We’ll find out when Self/Less hits theatres July 31.

“Apple engineer” talks new MacBook in hysterical viral video

Mere days after Apple’s “Spring Forward” keynote, an absolutely hysterical video regarding one of the product announcements made at the event has surfaced and gone viral.

At the keynote, Apple CEO Tim Cook and his team unveiled a new MacBook that’s so thin and light that it had to do away with all the ports you’re used to having on a notebook, namely, the ubiquitous USB port. What you’ll find on the new MacBook is a smaller, single USB Type-C port that will charge it. If you want to connect external devices to it, such as hard drives and monitors, you’ll have to pick up adapters (until, of course, Type-C becomes a true industry standard).

Anyway, that’s more than enough background you’ll need to enjoy this funny clip. YouTuber Armando Ferreira presents, “Apple Engineer Talks about the New 2015 Macbook.” You might want to grab some tissues to dab away tears of incoming laughter; enjoy!
