Much like NBC, the Alphabet network is premiering most of its shows during the official premiere week of September 23. A few shows enter the ring before that week: Reality series Dancing with the Stars kicks off Monday, September 16 and on Friday the 20th Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing returns along with The Neighbors and Shark Tank. Enter premiere week: Tuesday the 24th introduces four brand new shows–sitcoms The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife sandwiched between buzzy drama Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Lucky 7; Wednesday the 25th is home to The Middle, new Bad News Bears inspired sitcom Back in the Game with James Caan and Maggie Lawson, the one-hour season premiere of Modern Family, and Nashville. ABC’s sudsy Sunday night lineup premieres the following week on September 29 with Once Upon A Time, Revenge, and new marital drama Betrayal. Three shows won’t make their mark until October: the new Rebel Wilson half-hour Super Fun Night (Wednesday, October 2), Shonda Rhimes’ red-hot Scandal (Thursday, October 3), and the spinoff Once Upon A Time In Wonderland (Thursday, October 10).

2013 Fall TV Schedule: CBS

Not including Survivor (returning Wednesday, September 18 at 8), almost every show on CBS will start on premiere week. On Monday, September 23 buzzy drama Hostages headlined by Dylan McDermott and Toni Collette premieres along with Chuck Lorre’s latest sitcom Moms, 2 Broke Girls, and How I Met Your Mother (the final season kicks off with a one-hour premiere). Person of Interest gets comfortable in its new timeslot on Tuesday the 24th at 10PM following the NCIS‘. On Thursday the 26th buzzy new comedy The Crazy Ones with Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar is bolstered by two new back-to-back episodes of The Big Bang Theory; Two and a Half Men and Elementary enter the fold that night as well. Hawaii Five-0 airs on Fridays this season starting Sept. the 27th and on Sunday the 29th The Amazing Race, The Good Wife, and The Mentalist return. New sitcoms We Are Men starring Tony Shalhoub, Kal Penn, and Jerry O’Connell and The Millers starring Will Arnett and Margo Martindale come to the sked Monday, September 30 and Thursday, October 3, respectively. Sci-fi action drama Intelligence with Josh Holloway and Marg Helgenberger is being held until Monday, February 24 when it will replace Hostages in the 10PM slot.

2013 Fall TV Schedule: The CW

Just like last year, The CW is letting the big four networks premiere their fall lineups ahead of its own October debuts. CBS’ sister network begins the fall season on Thursday, October 3 by airing The Vampire Diaries and that show’s spinoff The Originals back-to-back from 8-10PM (The Originals moves to its regular Tuesday at 8 timeslot on October 8). The week of October 7 sees the premieres of new series like The Tomorrow People and Reign.

A mysterious danger lingers in ‘The Walking Dead’ season 4

The Walking Dead‘s season 4 premiere is creeping closer and AMC is giving fans another inside look at the new episodes. We learn quite a bit from this new teaser. Six-to-seven months have past since we last saw our band of survivors…Carl makes friends his own age…Carol becomes a teacher of sorts lecturing the kids about the use of knives, of course…and the prison begins to fall apart. “It’s not really walkers and it’s not other people,” says co-exec producer Denise Huth. The dangers is “from inside,” hints special FX lead Greg Nicotero. Every character will be pushed to their breaking point, remarks TWD creator Robert Kirkman. And for those of you hoping for happy ending, new showrunner Scott M. Gimple has these morose words for you: “There might not be any hope.”

The Walking Dead returns October 13.

J.K. Rowling to pen a script set in the wizarding world of (pre) Harry Potter

Harry Potter fans, perk up! J.K. Rowling is back with another film in mind. Now before you freak out too hard, this new film will not star The Boy Who Lived but instead it will focus on Newt Scamander, the fictitious author of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. This book was first mentioned in the first Potter novel The Sorcerer’s Stone and Rowling would later adapt it into a real book in 2001. Adapting Fantastic Beasts marks Rowling’s screening debut, and though plot details are under wraps, a press release makes it known that the original story will take place in the wizarding world featured in the Potter books and movies but it unfolds 70 years before Harry is introduced. Rowling release the following statement:

It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ into a film. I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of ‘Fantastic Beasts,’ realized by another writer was difficult. Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favourite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood.

As I considered Warners’ proposal, an idea took shape that I couldn’t dislodge. That is how I ended up pitching my own idea for a film to Warner Bros.

Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world. The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.

Jimmy Fallon is Falsenberg in ‘Breaking Bad’ parody “Joking Bad”

Jimmy Fallon and the team at Late Night are back again with yet another highly entertaining digital short parodying a popular TV series. This time J.F. takes on the popular AMC series-coming-to-an-end Breaking Bad. Fallon is Walter White, naturally, and announcer Steve Higgins is his PIC Jesse Pinkman. Instead of dealing meth they’re giving away good jokes, hence the title “Joking Bad.” It’s certainly not the best BB parody I’ve seen but it’s worth a watch since it’s packed with great nods to the show that fans will surely gobble up as fast as Tuco Salamanca can snort Blue Sky off a sharp knife. A slew of super special guests participated in this and I won’t comment on them so as not to ruin the surprise. Bitch.

‘Breaking Bad’ spinoff series starring Saul Goodman is happening!

For those of you who are experience great anxiety as we near the end of Breaking Bad, I have some very, very exciting news for you. After the AMC staple concludes, one of its most memorable characters will live on. That’s right, I’m talking about the one and only Saul Goodman. Walter White’s fast-talking lawyer and absolute scene-stealer is getting his very own spinoff series imagined by Breaking Bad mastermind Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, the man who invented the sly comic relief character.

Perhaps the aforementioned phrase “live on” isn’t so appropriate here. Goodman very well may die a bloody death before the series comes to a close and yet the spinoff will remain in tact. Are you connecting the dots here? The spinoff is a prequel series meaning it will take place before Goodman was even acquainted with The One Who Knocks. Tentatively titled Better Call Saul, the prequel spinoff “will focus on the evolution” of the well-connected lawyer. Bob Odenkirk, the comic who currently portrays Goodman, is expected to sign on to reprise the role.

The Goodman spinoff will be a one-hour drama despite its main character being as funny as Odenkirk can be. In an exchange with EW, Gould shares his early vision and tells Breaking Bad fans to expect–what else–the unexpected. “We’re using the kind of storytelling that we did on Breaking Bad but in a really new way. When people think of a Saul Goodman spin-off, they tend to think in terms of a laugh-a-minute comedy, and we’re going for something that has a very very unique tone. To play with a main character who has the unique morality that Saul Goodman does is going to be in its own way as much of an experiment as Breaking Bad was.”

When asked why give someone like Saul Goodman his own series, Gould was quick to answer: “He’s not a character I’ve seen before. So much of Breaking Bad is about playing out ideas of morality and how you live in the world, and this is a guy who has a philosophy which is internally consistent but is also kind of strange. In addition to the fact that he always amuses us and we’re always ready to see more, the guy is a problem solver. He solves problems in his own way. He’s just as innovative as Walt is, so that really gives us a lot of stories and a lot of places to go with him.”

AMC and Sony Pictures Television reached a licensing agreement to make the show, and in time a pilot and/or series order is fully expected to be greenlit. Stay tuned.

‘AHS: Coven’: More creepy teasers!

After the break “Stakes” and “Coffin” await your click but the 30-second clip hanging above called “Initiation” is the juiciest; this one finally features Coven‘s female-driven cast. The fourth ‘Jurassic Park’ movie named ‘Jurassic World’ coming in 2015

Ten years after the original Jurassic Park stormed into theatres we are talking about a fourth movie being added to the franchise. Famed director Steven Spielberg, who helmed Jurassic Park (1997) and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1993), will serve as producer on Jurassic World with Colin Trevorrow calling the shots and Derek Connolly penning the script. This marks the second time Trevorrow and Connolly teaming up to make a movie; previously they collaborated on the critically acclaimed Safety Not Guaranteed. Plot details are non-existent at this point, but if the newly announced title says anything it’s that the dinos will be back on a much larger scale.

Universal Pictures pegs Jurassic World with a June 12, 2015 release date. And yes, it’ll be in eye-popping 3D.

Sony shows off updated PS Vita and new game console/media streamer for Japanese market

Sony Computer Entertainment held a press conference in Japan today and although all the announcements pertain directly to the Japanese market it’s very likely that some of the announced hardware may make their way to the States and other parts of the world.

First up, Sony made it known that the PS4 will release in Japan on February 22, 2014, almost three full months after the console launches in North America. Yeah, that has got to sting, especially since Sony is based in JP. But remember, the PS3 had launched in Japan six days before it did in America…so…yeah.

Next let’s turn to hardware. Sony flashed a new PS Vita (WiFi only) that is 20 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter than the OG Vita and promises six hours of battery life. The design is mostly the same–you’ll noticed a slightly rounder look. Inside the LED screen has been swapped out for an OLED display, there’s now 1GB of onboard storage and a micro-USB has been added for syncing and charging. The new Vita will come in a bunch of colors such as black, white, lime green, light blue, pink and grey. The proprietary memory cards have fallen in price and a 64GB size has been introduced to the fold. The updated PS Vita releases in Japan October 10 for 18,980 yen (or about $190).

And now to the unexpected. Sony outed a new box to put in front of your television and it’s called the PS Vita TV. It looks like a mini console and allows gamers to play Vita titles on their TV. It comes complete with slots to insert Vita cartridges and memory cards and you control gameplay with a DualShock controller, not the Vita. The Vita TV will support 1,300 Vita games; in other words this “console” will launch with an impressive games lineup. Note, however, that it will not support all Vita titles; big ones like Gravity Rush, Wipeout, and Uncharted are not included on the compatible games list for some reason. In addition to playing games, the Vita TV will also act as a media streamer with access to Sony’s Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited services, Hulu, and more. And when the PS4 comes out, a software update will turn the Vita TV into a Remote Play device akin to how the Vita will become one as well. Vita TV comes to the Japanese market on November 14 with a 9,954 yen price tag. That converts to appox. $100. Should it enter the US market at some point it’d fare as a worthy competitor against Apple TV, Roku, and the like.

Xbox One will release on…

At last, Microsoft has revealed the launch date of their next-gen video game console. Xbox One will release on November 22, 2013 at $499. That is exactly one week after Sony drops PS4 on November 15 at $399, if you’re keeping score. On the 22nd, the One will launch in 13 markets: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, UK, and USA. More countries will follow in 2014.

In addition to announcing the date, Microsoft says the system is in full production and ready for showtime. Gamers will be happy to know that it will feature an improved clock speed for enhanced performance. Specifically, the CPU has jumped from the previously announced 1.6GHz speed to 1.75GHz marking roughly a 10 percent increase in CPU performance. And in case you didn’t know, the GPU’s speed was also increased  by 6 percent. Watch Xbox’s Xbox’s Yusuf Mehdi discuss the news in a video posted after the break.

Now the countdown for next-gen can truly begin.
