First look: Nolan’s Bane revealed

The third and final chapter in Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise is set to bow in July 2012, and today we have our first look at the villainous Bane. Actor Tom Hardy certainly beefed up for the role–just look at those protruding back muscles! Add that muzzle contraption into the mix and we’ve got ourselves one formidable baddie to face off against the Dark Knight. Interestingly Warner Bros. released this image as part of a grander viral campaign for the film. If you direct your browser to the movie’s official site you’ll hear a brief sound byte; the chant was analyzed and found to contain the phrase “The Fire Rises.” Those that tweeted out the hashtag #TheFireRises contributed their Twitter profile picture to a user-generated mosaic that makes up the Bane image. Eventually the image was uploaded to Facebook and then everywhere else. The studio created the Twitter handle @thefirerises, so if you’re hotly anticipating the film I’d advise you to follow that for more updates surrounding the viral campaign. Don’t be surprised if a similar game is played to reveal another character, next time perhaps one Selina Kyle?

The Dark Knight Rises hits theatres July 20, 2012.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ casting scoop: Anne Hathaway is Catwoman, Tom Hardy is Bane

We’re finally starting to get idea about what Christopher Nolan’s third and final Batman film will be about, now that we know Catwoman and Bane are involved.  Anne Hathaway (Love and Other Drugs) has been cast as Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman).  Cue statement from Nolan: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”  Tom Hardy (Inception) is Bane, or as he’s better known as “the man who broke the Bat”; in the comics Bane is an abnormally strong villain who literally breaks Batman’s back and learns Batman’s secret identity.  Another statement from the director: “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”

Movie buff?  The last time Catwoman and Bane made it to the big screen was in 1996’s Batman Returns (Michelle Pfeiffer) and 1997’s Batman and Robin (Robert Swenson).  I’m trying real hard to forget that 2004’s Catwoman (Halle Berry) was ever made.

Christian Bale, Hathaway, and Hardy are locked in; can’t wait to see who gets called in next.  The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012.

The next Batman movie is called…

The Dark Knight Rises.  Got a nice ring to it, yeah?  In an interview with the LA Times, director Christopher Nolan revealed the film’s title and also checked off a potential (and oft-rumored) villain.  “It won’t be the Riddler,” he said.  So let the speculation continue!  In addition, Nolan was happy to report that Warner Bros. is on board with his anti-3D proposal to release the next Batman using HD and IMAX cameras only.  The followup to The Dark Knight is expected to hit theatres in 2012.

Batman 3 rumors: Arkham Asylum, The Riddler, & more

According to “unverified sources” the next Batman flick is well underway, with a David S. Goyer/Jonah Nolan first draft script already penned.  Sources add the the plot will introduce Arkham Asylum and the prominent villain will be…THE RIDDLER!  Also mentioned is that other classic Batman villains will make cameos and they include The Penguin and Mr. Freeze (as Dr. Fries).  And if that’s not enough for you, sources also say that  Barbara Gordon (daughter of Commissioner Gordon) will have a bigger role in the film and Dick Grayson will make an appearence, though likely not as Robin.  Oh, and one more thing.  The Superman universe may get mentioned in the film with nods to Lex Luther and Metropolis.  Director Chistopher Nolan was recently hired by Warner Bros. to helm the Superman reboot franchise; an exciting connection as such makes sense.  With all these juicy Batman rumors flying around the ‘Net I can’t wait to see the trailer!

NPH shows off his pipes in Batman

Dr. Horrible star (and everyone’s favorite kid doctor) Neil Patrick Harris lends his musical talents to one of the latest episodes of Cartoon Network’s Batman: The Brave and the Bold.  In it he stars as the main villain–the Music Meister.  True, a musical Batman is just wrong and doesn’t make much sense.  Also true, NPH’s musical ability is so good that you should just sit back and enjoy this short clip.

Megan Fox to play Catwoman

Today The Sun is reporting that Megan Fox will fit into the tight suit and play the role of Catwoman in the next installation of Batman.  Her “slightly darker edge” should fit the role just fine.  Also according to this source, “All the other stars who have reinvented the Batman films are back on board – Christian Bale, Michael Caine and director Chirstopher Nolan.”  Shooting begins next year and a release date will come soon after in 2011.  So looking forward to this.
