Interview + hands-on: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

Game: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

Publisher: Kojima Productions

Release date: Available today (PSP)

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker takes place after the events in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.  The game controls are different from Portable Ops, the last MGS title made for PSP.  Thanks to ad-hoc and WiFi support, Peace Walker allows for co-op experiences within the campaign mode.  Check out the brief demo above to see how the analog nub and D-pad control Snake in this game.  Since the demonstration only featured the tutorial level found at the start of the game, I was unable to go through all the motions of the game.  However, from what I saw and was told, Peace Walker is not only a great PSP title, it is being considered one of the best MGS games in the franchise.  As a big fan of creator Hideo Kojima and all the work he’s put into the MGS games over the years, I am very much looking forward to picking up a copy of Peace Walker and advancing the back story of Solid Snake.

A zombie from AMC’s “The Walking Dead” [Update]

The Walking Dead Picture

Look what we have here!  It’s a makeup test photo from AMC’s “The Walking Dead“, a new TV series based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book that shares the same name.  The upcoming series stars Andrew Lincoln as protagonist Rick Grimes, Sarah Waynes Callies as his wife Lori Grimes, and Jon Bernthal as Grimes’ partner.  Together they will lead a resistance in the fight against a zombie-dominated world.  “The Walking Dead” begins this October on AMC.  That is one good looking zombie, if I may be so bold.

Update: Quint from Aint It Cool News sat down with The Walking Dead comic book creator Robert Kirkman to talk about the upcoming AMC series.  Look after the break for some worthy takeaways. Continue reading A zombie from AMC’s “The Walking Dead” [Update]

CoCo makes funny at Google HQ

Need your Conan fix?  Have no fear, Google is here!  On May 5 former Tonight Show host Conan O’Brien made a pit stop in Mountain View, CA and sat down with the people of Google to discuss life, liberty, and the pursuit of funnyness.  (Yep, I just made that word up.)  Sit back, relax, and enjoy “A Conversation with Conan O’Brien.”  Oh, Andy Richter makes an appearence, too!

Conan O’Brien appears on 60 Minutes, shares thoughts about NBC, Leno

This past Sunday former The Tonight Show host Conan O’Brien appeared on television for the first time since he was outed back in December.  In an interview with 60 Minutes‘ Steve Kroft, he shed some light on his feelings towards NBC and Jay Leno.  He also made sure to let America know he is doing just fine.  He’s having a blast on tour (it saved him from nosediving into depression and dispair) and he’s really looking forward to his new show on TBS set to debut in November.  Look after the break for a bunch of extra videos 60 Minutes posted to the ‘Net.

An interview with “Merton the Chatroulette Piano Improv Guy”

We’ve laughed at his original video and watched as Ben Folds (whom many thought he actually was) recorded an “ode” to him live on tour.  Here we have an intruiging interview with the man known only as “Merton,” and in it we learn that he is not actually Ben Folds (bummer, I know), he has “awesome hair” hidden within the hoodie, and he’s currently putting together a bunch of new videos featuring more instruments.  Well, what are you waiting for?

The decade according to 9-year-olds

This video features a bunch of children who were all born in the year 2000.  Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Kobe Bryant, and George Lopez are the biggest celebrities.  Britney Spears has lost her touch, simply known to the kids as “the girl who cut her hair bald.”  They all started using computers, iPods, cell phones, and portable gaming devices at very young ages.  They never heard of Napster and the file-sharing saga.  The sound of dial-up is foreign to them; they associate it with phone answering machines, not computers.  They have a grasp on what it means to be green, though they aren’t too educated about the global warming phenomena.  (Al Gore, get on that!)  They share a keen understanding that Barack Obama is black.  Biggest news story?  When MJ died (not 9/11?).  On the 9/11 subject they all seem to remember what happened that day, what a terrorist is, and the pains of living during wartime.  Interestingly, immediately after discussing terrorism and wartime the interviewer asks the children to share their biggest fears and their answers remind us all that they are in fact a group of 9-year-olds.

Interviewer Allison Louie-Garcia has created sound clip time capsule with this short but poignant session with 9-year-old children.  It’s humorous to hear that they can’t put their finger on the sound of dial-up.  I’m glad I was born when I was.  Every now and then I ask my grandparents what it was like growing up and how fascinated they were with the transition from black and white to color TV and living through the introduction of computers and MP3 players.  I always used to complain that they saw so much and was able to live through many technological advancements.  I would think to myself “where do we go from here?”  This sound byte reminds me that I have lived through plenty of breakthroughs and I am convinced the next few decades will bring many more exciting advancements.  Flying cars, flying cars!

Conan interviews Intel’s “rockstar,” Ajay Bhatt

A few months ago Intel created an ad campaign highlighting who they deem are “rockstars.”  One of these commericals highlighted Ajay Bhatt, the co-inventor of the USB port.  After some investigating, the crew at The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien found out that the Bhatt in the Intel commercial was not Bhatt but an look-alike actor.  So, Conan decided to sit down with Bhatt in what turns out to be an informative and obviously comical interview.  The clip shows the original Intel ad…and at the end of the clip, Conan reveals a new one, this time featuring Bhatt himself.  Worth the watch, enjoy!
