Teaser trailer: Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Bruce Willis in sci-fi action thriller ‘Looper’

Fans of time travel, here’s an coming movie to keep on your radar.

In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.

Joining Gordon Levitt (Inception) and Willis (Die Hard) are Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Looper is written and directed by Rian Johnson (Brick). In theatres September 28. A video after the break features Gordon-Levitt and Johnson explaining the freakishly intriguing premise. Teaser: Jeremy Renner in ‘The Bourne Legacy’

Here is your first look at the next movie in the Bourne franchise, The Bourne Legacy. Matt Damon is out and Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, Mission Impossible–Ghost Protocol) is in. Renner takes over the lead role and plays trained assassin Kenneth Kitson, or as the trailer reveals, “Treadstone, without the inconsistency.” Bourne fans will get that, no doubt.

Events planted in The Bourne Ultimatum, the final film in the Damon trilogy, ignite this new adventure based on the Bourne novels by Robert Ludlum and Eric Van Lustbader. Though Damon’s Jason Bourne lives on in the novels, the film franchise is starting fresh with new protagonist because like the tagline slyly says, “There was never just one.” Tony Gilroy helms (and wrote with his brother Dan) Legacy and this should make the original trilogy fanboys happy: he was the screenwriter on the first three movies. Like Damon, the triology’s director Paul Greengrass has no association with the new movie.

The Bourne Legacy hits theatres this summer on August 3. Also starring are newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac and franchise vets Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn, and Scott Glenn. Jump after the break to eye the movie poster. Then watch this bad-ass trailer once more. Continue reading Teaser: Jeremy Renner in ‘The Bourne Legacy’

Stop-motion animation studio LAIKA is back with ‘ParaNorman’ [trailer inside]

Here’s a nice Halloween treat for us all: a teaser poster and trailer for the upcoming stop-motion animated feature ParaNorman. The movie is from Focus Features and LAIKA, the same partnership that produced 2009’s critically-acclaimed Coraline. ParaNorman is directed by Sam Fell and Chris Butler; Butler imagined and penned the original story. The voice cast includes Kodi Smit-McPhee, Casey Affleck, Anna Kendrick, John Goodman, Leslie Mann, Jeff Garlin, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Elaine Strich, Tempestt Bledsoe, Bernard Hill, and Alex Borstein. The trailer, embedded after the break, doesn’t reveal much of the plot as it includes zero dialogue, but this quick synopsis should suffice:

A misunderstood boy who can speak with the dead takes on ghosts, zombies and, worst of all, grown-ups, in order to save his town from a centuries-old curse. Norman Babcock is an outcast in his small New England town. When a horde of zombies is unleashed on the populace, Norman learns he must use his paranormal powers to make things right again. That’s not an easy task when you’re only eleven. And you’ve just been grounded.

The movie poster and teaser trailer make ParaNorman out to be a strange, dark, and visually stunning piece of work worthy of much anticipation. It releases wide August 17, 2012 in 3D. Continue reading Stop-motion animation studio LAIKA is back with ‘ParaNorman’ [trailer inside]

Teaser trailer: ‘Grim Night’

Check out this teaser trailer for Grim Night based on a spec script penned by first-time feature writers Brandon Bestenheider and Allen Bey and produced by Bryan Bertino (The Strangers) and Adrienne Brittle. According to Deadline, there was a heated battle over the script among the big movie studios and in the end Universal Pictures purchased it making a deal “in the high six- or seven-figure range.” The plot is creepy all the way to its core, and horror fans are eating this up. The teaser trailer introduces us to a world where there is one day every year when creatures known as “Grims” terrorize and murder people on Earth. The scariest bit is that the Grim attacks are extremely violent and senselessly random. The movie will focus on a family in small town America defending themselves against the hooded Dementor-like Grims. Since it’s so early in development, there is no telling how much the final product will look like the teaser embedded above. If the young writing duo and veteran producers are smart, they won’t deviate too far from what they already have. The scary, apocalyptic, gritty and viral-video feeling here is very reminiscent of recent flicks like Paranormal ActivityDistrict 9, and Bertino’s own The Strangers. More as this story develops. Oh, and good luck sleeping tonight after watching this doozy.

Red band teaser: ‘American Reunion’

It was reported back in April of 2010 that the entire cast of the original American Pie trilogy would return in a new movie. I am happy to report that it has all panned out: the gang is back for “one more slice,” that is, according to the official movie website. Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Shannon Elizabeth, Tara Reid, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Seann William Scott, Eugene Levy, Natasha Lyonne, Mena Suvari, Jennifer Coolidge, Thomas Ian Nichols, and Chris Owen are all expected to return. In the fourth installment, Jim is still married to Michelle and now they have a kid! I’ll leave the rest to the released synopsis:

In the comedy American Reunion, all the American Pie characters we met a little more than a decade ago return to East Great Falls for their high-school reunion. In one long-overdue weekend, they will discover what has changed, who hasn’t and that time and distance can’t break the bonds of friendship. It was summer 1999 when four small-town Michigan boys began a quest to lose their virginity. In the years that have passed, Jim and Michelle married while Kevin and Vicky said goodbye. Oz and Heather grew apart, but Finch still longs for Stifler’s mom. Now these lifelong friends have come home as adults to reminisce about—and get inspired by—the hormonal teens who launched a comedy legend.

Watch the red band teaser trailer above. American Reunion hits theatres April 6, 2012.

Teaser trailer: The Muppets in “The Pig With The Froggy Tattoo”

It’s definitely been awhile since Muppets Studio pumped out a parody trailer for the upcoming Muppets movie. I am happy to announce that the wait is officially over. “The Pig With The Froggy Tattoo” sits above, and it wonderfully parodies David Fincher’s teaser trailer for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Man I cannot wait for The Muppets to return to the big screen. They arrive this Thanksgiving on November 23.

Teaser 2: The Woman in Black

Here’s a new look at The Woman in Black, a supernatural thriller starring Daniel Radcliffe in his first theatrical release post-Potter. He plays a young lawyer who travels to a mysterious house to settle the affairs of the spooky mansion’s owner. This trailer is chilling; creepy dolls, an ominous narrator voiced by a young girl, and a lurking ghost known to a small town as The Woman in Black are abound. The film, from director James Watkins (Eden Lake), was adapted from Susan Hill’s 1982 novel of the same name by Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class scribe Jane Goldman.

The Woman in Black hits theatres February 3, 2012. It’s going to be a spooky good time.

Movie poster: The Dark Knight Rises [Update: teaser trailer inside]

Ahh yes. From the man behind Inception comes this poster for the third and final movie in Christopher Nolan’s imaging of the Batman universe, The Dark Knight Rises. Download the full-res image at the official website. Rumor has it that the first theatrical teaser trailer will play in front of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 this Friday, so stay tuned!

Update: Warner Bros. has uploaded the teaser trailer to the movie’s official Facebook page. Click the link to watch it in HD.

Update 2: Now it’s embedded below. You’re welcome.

TV teasers: HBO’s ‘How To Make It In America’ & ‘Boardwalk Empire’

This week HBO released teaser trailers for the upcoming sophomore seasons of How To Make It In America and Boardwalk Empire. The former is a teaser in the very sense of the term; shots of New York City are mingled with stills of the characters who include Bryan Greenberg’s Ben Epstein, Victor Rasuk’s Cam, Lake Bell’s Rachel, Eddie Kaye Thomas’s David Kaplan, Kid Cudi’s Domingo Dean, and Luis Guzmán’s Rene Calderon. Can’t wait to see how far Ben and Cam have come along with Crisp and Rene his energy drink Rasta Monsta when HTMIIA returns to HBO this September.

The much more beefier trailer for Boardwalk Empire is located after the break. In it you’ll see Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt) more ready than ever to take down and replace Nucky (Steve Buscemi) as gangster king of the Prohibition Era.
