Trailer round-up: ‘Rock of Ages’, ‘The Dictator’, ‘Jack the Giant Killer’, ‘ParaNorman’

This past week was packed to the brim with new movie trailers. Following The Three Stooges and Men in Black III is Rock of Ages, The Dictator, Jack the Giant Killer, and another look at the stop motion animation ParaNorman.

We start with Rock of Ages, a film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical. This movie has two things going for it: a fantastic collection of classic rock songs and a killer cast. It features music from Def Leppard, Foreigner, Journey, Poison, and Twisted Sister, and the talented cast is comprised of Julianne Hough, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Ackerman, Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin, and Tom Cruise as the rocker women pine over, Stacee Jaxx. Directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), Rock of Ages brings “the music of a generation” to theatres on June 1, 2012.

Jump after the break to view more trailers.

Sacha Baron Cohen is back and this time he is The Dictator. Cohen has teamed with director Larry Charles again (he helmed Borat and Brüno) to “tell the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.” Unlike his previous two films, The Dictator will play like a traditional movie and will not serve as a mockumentary. Other stars include Ben Kingsley, John C. Reilly, and Megan Fox. Introduce yourself to General Admiral Alladeen, dictator of Republic Of Wadiya in the trailer above and anticipate the film’s May 11, 2012 release.

Director/producer Bryan Singer (Superman Returns) is behind this reimagining of the classic fairy tale that originated a very long time ago in Britain. Jack the Giant Killer “tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittinglyopens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants.” Nicholas Hoult (About A Boy) fills Jack’s shoes, and Eleanor Tomlinson, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy Ewan McGregor, Warwick Davis, and Eddie Marsan round out the rest of the cast. It releases wide June 14, 2012.

And last we have another look at ParaNorman from Focus Features and stop motion animation studio LAIKA. This time around we get to hear some dialogue and a better taste of what’s to come, plot-wise. ParaNorman comes out to play August 17, 2012 in 3D.
