Trailer round-up: ‘Chernobyl Diaries’, ‘Piranha 3DD’, ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ & ‘The Three Stooges’

From Paranormal Activity creator Oren Peli comes Chernobyl Diaries, an upcoming horror flick that follows a group of young and attractive tourists exploring the eerie abandoned nuclear reactor that experienced an unfortunate meltdown in 1986. Here’s the official synopsis:

The film follows a group of six young tourists who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an “extreme tour” guide. Ignoring warnings, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster more than 25 years ago. After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon finds themselves stranded, only to discover that they are not alone.

Chernobyl Diaries is directed by visual effects specialist Bradley Parker and Peli serves as co-writer and producer. After Paranormal Activity and ABC’s The River, this looks to be the first Peli project that won’t rely entirely on the “found footage” style. From the visually striking shots to the scares around every corner, this intense trailer sets up an intriguing and shocking tale that horror genre enthusiasts will probably take a liking to. The movie releases May 25.

One year after the brutal attack at Lake Victoria, the vicious piranha are back. The sequel to the 2010 horror-comedy film is appropriately titled Piranha 3DD (that is three double-d) and the red-band trailer (extremely NSFW) for it embedded above contains everything you’d expect: lots of blood, the return of Christopher Lloyd and Ving Rhames, a sampling of David Hasselhoff and Gary Busey, and yes, boobies. The premise of the film involves the sharp-toothed fish taking over a new waterpark and swimming their way through a town’s plumbing system. Whether or not the enormous piranha revealed at the end of the first one are involved here is still unknown. John Gulager (Feast) directs a screenplay from Saw duo Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. This campy, gory, sexy, guilty pleasure hits theaters June 1.

Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, and Chris Hemsworth star in this strikingly bold new look at the dark reimagining of Snow White’s tale in Snow White and the Huntsman. Out June 1.

And finally, here’s one last look at the Farrelly brothers’ modern remake of The Three Stooges before it releases next month on April 13. This latest trailer emphasis the slapstick humor that made the Stooges popular in the first place. Sprinkle in some Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) and we’ve got ourselves a decent trailer for the zany comedy.
