Lady Gaga electrfies the pose, her most bizzare yet?

Lady Gaga’s latest photoshoot consists of these images that can be found in the limited edition copy of her re-release album, The Fame Monster.  This “zombie cyborg” look is almost as scary as her red-mesh face mask she wore when she accepted her VMA.  Oh, come on, you remember–bet you still have nightmares from it.

Eminem is back with a “refill”

Relpase: Refill - In Stores 12.21.09!

Before Relapse 2 is released later next year, Eminem is sharing with us seven new tracks in a re-release of this year’s comeback album Relapse.  Two of the seven new songs include iTunes singles “Hell Breaks Loose” (featuring Dr Dre) and Elevator.  “Forever,” the slick single that also features Drake, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne, is also on the album.  Eminem kills it on that track; his verse alone makes the song a great single.  Look after the break for a full track listing.

Eminem on Refill: “I want to deliver more material for the fans this year like I originally planned.  Hopefully these tracks on The Refill will tide the fans over until we put out Relapse 2 next year.”  Em also comments on his time in the studio: “I got back in with Dre and then a few more producers, including Just Blaze, and went in a completely different direction which made me start from scratch. The new tracks started to sound very different than the tracks I originally intended to be on Relapse 2, but I still want the other stuff to be heard.”

Relapse: Refill officially drops today but will made available for download on iTunes this Tuesday.

Tesla coils make good entertainment

Ah the tesla coil.  Invented by Nikola Tesla around 1891.  Technically speaking, “it is used to produce high voltage, relatively high current, high frequency alternating current electricity.”  Although its traditional use includes conducting experiments in electrical lighting, x-ray generation, and other high frequency alternating current phenomena, today tesla coils are constructed and used by enthusiasts for our entertainment.  With proper manipulation, the electrical current can display a wondrous light show and even spark to a specific song (in this video, the Zelda theme).  This particular tesla coil professional adds to the excitement with balloons that pop after being ignited with fire.  Cool stuff.

Flight of the Conchords (the show) is over

Though news of Flight of the Conchords not returning to the small screen does not come with much surprise, the finality of it all still makes me really, really sad.  The show had a great run with two seasons filled with much joy, laughter, and nonsense that will truly be missed.

Stars Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement met with show director James Bobin to discuss the future of the show.  Unfortunately for us, the fans, they decided not to create another 12 episodes and 24 some-odd new songs for a third season.  The duo broke the hard to swallow news on their new website:

“We’ve noticed the less we say about the future of the show, the more people want to talk about it, so in an effort to reverse this trend we are today announcing that we won’t be returning for a 3rd season. We’re very proud of the two seasons we made and we like the way the show ended. We’d like to thank everyone who helped make the show and also everyone who watched it. While the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be around, the real Bret and Jemaine will continue to exist.”

I’m glad to hear that “the real”  Bret and Jemaine are sticking around.  I hope they continue to share with us their awkwardly groundbreaking comedic brilliance by adding to their collection of two full-length albums and coming back to America with another US tour.  I know I will never get too tired of listening to “Too many mutha’ ‘uckas, ‘uckin with my shi’! and “They call me the Hiphopopotamus, Flows that glow like phosphorous, Poppin’ off the top of this esophagus, Rockin’ this metropolis…”  And I’ll always remember that “a kiss is not a contract, but it’s very nice, yes it’s very nice.”

Oh, be sure to check out their newly renovated official website.  It includes FOTC news updates, merch, video, photo galleries, fan art, chords and lyrics, and more.  Also, you can follow Bret and Jemaine on Twitter; they’re @fotc.

Amazon Kindle commercial features a lovely song, with a lovely artist

The latest stop motion TV spot for the Amazon Kindle features up-and-coming artist Annie Little.  She stars in the commercial and sings the song “Fly Me Away.”  The Fly Me Away EP includes three songs and is available at Amazon to purchase.  The song used in the commercial is available for free, so you should definitely pick it up.  She’s quite talented and I’m sure this will not be last we see of her.

VEVO launches (fans of the music video, listen up)

What is Vevo?  It’s a destination provided by YouTube to find streaming music videos.  Though Vevo is being hailed as “an MTV for the digital age,” I agree with Vozick-Levinson at EW when he says it’s “more like Hulu for music videos.”  Sony, Universal, and EMI (where’s Warner Music Group at?) have teamed up to port all their artist’s music videos to Vevo.  The site sports a large, high-quality video player (with HD support coming next year) and contains an index of the latest music videos.  Take note that the current smorgasbord of videos is very limited; you’ll be hard-pressed to find older music videos, and forget about indie bands.  Though the selection is very sparse and sporadic at the moment, give Vevo some time to grow (it just launched yesterday).

Here are some additional details from the Vevo launch event: 85% of all music videos will go through Vevo, the rest will live on YouTube; Vevo includes synchronized and integrated lyrics; the player serves ads based on aggregate usage; Vevo will load any time you search for artists on YouTube; Vevo will be a destination for exclusive premieres, now including brand new videos from 50 Cent, Mary J Blige and Mariah Carey.

Why Vevo?  Three of the “big four” music labels believe that this new centralized location for music videos will result in ease for the user looking for music videos on the Internet, and, more importantly, high revenue from the slew of ads that play before (or dangle below) the majority of videos (again, think Hulu for music videos).  Will it work..for the customers and the labels?  Time will tell.  For now, check it out for yourself and see what it’s all about.
