Kid Cudi Man on the Moon album preview

Last night in NYC Kid Cudi held a listening party for his upcoming album Man on the Moon: The End of Day.  ShowingOut.com was on hand and has composed a detailed preview of the album.  Below is an excerpt from it.  Click here to read the rest of the article which includes mini-critiques of each track.  Overall, they loved it.  The album drops on September 15, and the hype is getting louder.

Earlier tonight, journalists and bloggers gathered at Griffin Lounge in New York City’s Meatpacking District to get an advance listen to Kid Cudi’s highly anticipated debut album Man on the Moon: The End of Day. Set to be released on September 15th, the album is a front-to-back listen that takes you on a journey through Cudi’s consciousness, narrated by Common and featuring production from Ratatat, Kanye West, Emile, Plain Pat and even Cudi himself. Call it Cudi’s version of 808’s & Heartbreak, only less sappy and more idealized. This album plays from beginning to end, marked by high points and intended low points (by way of mood, not quality – there’s no compromising on that, considering that every track sounds scrutinized to the very last synth bleat). To put it bluntly, Kanye wishes that he could have made this album, one that sounds genuine without a single forced element.

With an introduction and conclusion by Universal Motown President Sylvia Rhone (she called it a “seminal album” that’s “going to change the game”), Showing Out was there to get an advance listen to the debut in its entirety.

‘Narrow Stairs’ is wide in scope

Simply put, Death Cab for Cutie’s Narrow Stairs is what music is all about.  All eleven tracks, from the rhyming “Bixby Canyon Bridge” to the soft yet entrancing “The Ice is Getting Thinner,” reveal to the listener a doorway to a place where vocals do not just provide words to a song–they are there as a vital piece of the instrumentation and wholeness of the song.  Death Cab is comprised of a guitarist in Chris Walla, a bassist in Nick Hammer, a drummer in Jason McGerr, and the lead vocalist, guitarist, and pianist in Benjamin Gibbard.  Although one can sit and review the meanings behind the emotion embedded within each track, this is not my mission.  It is far more worthy to discuss Gibbard’s attempt at going against the status quo and creating a spectacular album that shines in almost every way.

Continue after the break.

Kid Cudi – Man on the Moon: The End of Day ‘scene’ list

As we get closer to the debut of Kid Cuid’s first album Cudder himself has unveiled the final version of the “scenelist” for Man on the Moon: The End of Day.  Notice that the album does not have a track list; Cudi is purposely setting up his album to play like a movie with individual scenes, not traditional tracks.  The first two singles off the album are “Day N’ Nite” and “Make Her Say.”  On his blog Cudder tells his fans to “stay tuned on Twitter for a sneak peak of the movie poster” and the next single will be “Pursuit of Happiness.”  Look out for will be an impressive and unique album experience when it drops on September 15.

What’s fun & original? Shoot a webcam vid at an Apple Store!

YouTube user nicholifavs is a typical kid who makes webcam videos of himself lip-synching his favorite songs.  What makes him worthy of notice is the way he makes the videos.  He shoots and uploads all of his videos from the NYC 5th Ave. Apple Store!  He doesn’t care about the onlookers behind him, and it seems like the Apple Store employees don’t have a problem with it.  Check out his rendition of Boom Boom Pow above, and see his YouTube page for more.  Very original, man.  Keep it coming.

Fall Out Boy ventures into comics

Alternative-rock band Fall Out Boy will be releasing the first issue of their comic book called Fall Out Toy Works on September 2.  The comic is a collaborative effort between the band and Dr. Romanelli, a partner they befriended in the past to make custom jackets.  According to Hypebeast, this joint venture will introduce not only a comic book series but also “other creations” which are still under wraps.  Head over to the official website for future information: FallOutToyWorks.  Peek after the break for the comic book plot setup, and see the gallery below for some of the comic art panels.

Humanthesizer; electronic music just got more interesting

The Humanthesizer is a joint collaboration between electronic musician Calvin Harris, Sony Music UK, and Bare conductive body ink.  And damn is it cool.  Engadget: “Each patch is triggered by one of the girls closing a circuit with her hands or feet — you can see the “wires” painted on their arms and legs if you look closely…”  There are ladies in bikinis.; they are covered in conductive body paint.  On the floor there are pads on the floor that are connected to eachother by electricity.  When they ladies step on the pads with their “conductive” feet, sounds are played.  These sounds can be played to create beats or perform a choreographed song.  Check it out for yourself in the videos above.  As you will see, there are many different ways this tech can be used to create music in an innovative fashion.  I can definitely see something like this become a very successful attraction in Vegas or even make its way into music videos and musician’s tours.
