Concept: Open Smoking Booth

opensmokingbooth_02

I will allow the source to speak for itself:

“Design to encourage a bad habit? Go figure! FRESH is an open smoking booth designed for airport terminals. This “bubble” of self contained smoke air is filtered and fresh air is released. It’s modern and sleek with a circular arm stand on the base embedded into the floor. A cylindrical glass ash bin with a metal top stands in the middle.  When this system starts, the smoke is filtered by the arm top  where low-pressure air is generated. The “air wall” (a transition between low air pressure and high air pressure) keeps the smoke within it. Then the purified fresh air is sent out to the center of the booth from the lower part of the arm. The smoking space is therefore created by this invisible spherical “air wall” through which the travelers can walk conveniently in and out of.”

Although this is only a concept idea, I can see something like this creation by D.K. Wei become a reality in the near future.  With all of the new smoking laws being heavily enforced (yes!), there needs to be a way for those who continue to smoke to do so in a manner that does not affect the people around them.  Check out more images of the design after the break (click “…more”).

Tim Burton re-imagines "Alice in Wonderland"

Tim Burton and the strange that he carries with him is back, this time in Alice and Wonderland.  USA Today released the first still from the film, along with the main cast.  Johnny Depp plays the Mad Hatter, Burton’s wife Helena Bonham Carter plays the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway the White Queen, and the role of Alice will be acted out by 19-year-old Australian actress Mia Wasikowska.  Other cast members include Michael Sheen as the White Rabbit, Matt Lucas as twins Tweedledee & Tweedledum, Christopher Lee as The Jabberwock, Crispin Glover as The Knave of Hearts, and Alan Rickman as The Caterpillar.  The latest reports state this as the current synopsis of the film: “Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn’t remember.”  Just by looking at the inital stills, one can clearly see that this recreation will be very trippy, colorful, and weirdly unique, no surprise from visionary director Tim Burton.  Click here for interactive images from the movie, including peeks at “the white rabbit,” “Alice,” and “The Tweedles.”  Alice in Wonderland is set to be released in Disney Digital 3-D on March 3rd, 2010.  Look after the break (click “more…”) for the released character images. David Blaine Street Magic, part 4 – On Set

Today I was the production assistant and body double for the new  David Blaine Street Magic video.  It was so much fun.  I had a great time.  We filmed in the valley, so it was SO DAMN HOT.  That aside, it was such an amazing experience.  Michael Naughton, Mikey Day, and Mitch Silpa were hilarious.  Street Magic part 4 looks like it will be the best one yet.  Check it out on YouTube at Those Lil Rabbits channel this July…YOU DEMON!  Check after the break for a couple behind-the-scenes shots. The Man with No Shadow

‘The Man with No Shadow, by Makoto Tojiki, is a LED-based sculpture of a full size man.  Unfortunately, Tojiki does not reveal much about his LED model.  It was recently shown off at the Salone Satillite event in Italy.  In any case, it is quite an awesome feat.  In a way, it looks like a person caught mid-way transporting through the holodeck in Star Trek.  Look after the break (click “more…”) for more images. Cousin Skeeter's Rondell Sheridan…or Richard Kind?…Ernie?

Sorry, had to do it.  Look beyond the skin color difference…they look like they could be brothers!  Side note:  If Ernie from Sesamie Street was a real life person, he would definitely be embodied in Richard Kind.  Check out that comparison after the break.  C’mon, you know I’m right.
