Music video: Coldplay – “Paradise”

Today Coldplay released a new music video for the track “Paradise,” the second single off their upcoming fifth studio album Mylo Xyloto. The sweeping anthem plays in the background as we watch a costumed man in an elephant suit journey around the world to find his bandmates. His method of transportation is a unicycle. I don’t want to give anything away, but Coldplay frontman Chris Martin makes unicycling look easy! Whoops. The vibrant clip was directed by Mat Whitecross, the same guy who helmed the music video for the previous single “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall.”  Mylo Xyloto releases October 24.

Music video: Rihanna – “We Found Love”

Rihanna’s catchy dance track “We Found Love” now has a music video to go along with it. The Calvin Harris-produced lead single off RiRi’s upcoming sixth studio album Talk That Talk hit the radio earlier this month and quickly became a chart-topping hit. The clip embedded above features trippy visuals and contains too many jump cuts if you ask me. The Barbadian sex symbol doesn’t take much time to strip in front of her boy toy in this one. Pump up the volume and mash play to watch Rihanna let loose. Talk That Talk is due out next month.

Google & Samsung reveal Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich”

There was the Nexus One and Nexus S. Today in a joint event based in Hong Kong Google and Samsung announced the next Android flagship device: the Galaxy Nexus. Both the hardware and software that make up this smartphone will bring you to your knees. First, check out these hardware specifications. The Galaxy Nexus sports a giant 4.65″ (1280X720) HD Super AMOLED display and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual core processor and 1GB of RAM. There’s a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, zero shutter lag, and 1080p HD video recording at 30fps around back and a 1.3 megapixel camera on the front for video calls. Built-in sensors include an accelerometer, compass, gyro, light, proximity, and a freakin’ barometer. Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 technologies are onboard, as is NFC. The sleek devices measures at 135.5 x 67.94 x 8.94mm and weighs 135g. A Li-on 1,750 mAh battery comes attached. Ports include USB 2.0 and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Customers will have the option of 16GB and 32GB storage capacities. will HSPA+ and 4G LTE models will be produced with all signs pointing to AT&T and Verizon Wireless as official carriers, though this information along with pricing has yet to be announced.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the next Nexus phone will come loaded with the next generation Android OS dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich. Previously introduced and detailed at Google I/O earlier this year, ICS (now labeled Android 4.0) will merge Android’s smartphone OS Gingerbread (v2.3) and tablet OS Honeycomb (v3.0) to form “one OS everywhere” and bring the best of both worlds to smartphone devices. At the Hong Kong event Google further detailed ICS and shed light on some super cool functionality that’s baked into it. With Android 4.0, Google says “the lock screen, home screen, phone app, and everything in between has been rethought and redesigned to make Android simple, beautiful, and useful.” The revamped OS brings with it many enhancements and new features, but there are four major ones that were discussed at today’s event. (1) Face Unlock uses facial recognition to unlock your phone. In Settings, Android will snap a picture of your face and remember it each time you go to unlock your phone. If lighting is poor, you can unlock your phone with a conventional swipe. (2) Android Beam uses NFC technology to wirelessly share content between two devices. Users can physically touch two phones together and tap a “beam” button to share web pages, apps, maps, YouTube videos, and more. Does this remind you of WebOS’ “tap-to-share” functionality? It should. (3) The enhanced Camera app brings with it a panorama mode, 1080p video capture, zero-shutter lag, and fun effects like silly faces and background replacement. Photos can be edited right on the device. (4) A new People app helps users organize their contacts with social network integration (Google+, “other social networks”) including the ability to view status updates and high-res photos. Other software updates coming with ICS include virtual on-screen buttons that take the place of physical capacitive ones, a new modern “Roboto” font, a customizable launcher, offline search in Gmail, accessing apps from the lock screen, enhanced voice recognition, tabbed browsing, and the ability to exit apps running in the background. If you want to learn more about what’s packed inside Ice Cream Sandwich, head over to the Android Developers website.

The Galaxy Nexus will be the very first device to run Android 4.0. Google says that “theoretically [Ice Cream Sandwich] should work for any [Android] 2.3 device.” Though there are no plans to rollout ICS to legacy Android devices just yet, you can expect Google and hardware manufacturers like Samsung and HTC to speak up about software updates for specific devices in the near future. The Galaxy Nexus with ICS goes on sale in the U.S., Europe, and Asia this November. Again, pricing and carriers are TBD. Check out the super sleek phone and OS in the gallery below, then find official PR after the break.

Red band teaser: ‘American Reunion’

It was reported back in April of 2010 that the entire cast of the original American Pie trilogy would return in a new movie. I am happy to report that it has all panned out: the gang is back for “one more slice,” that is, according to the official movie website. Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Shannon Elizabeth, Tara Reid, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Seann William Scott, Eugene Levy, Natasha Lyonne, Mena Suvari, Jennifer Coolidge, Thomas Ian Nichols, and Chris Owen are all expected to return. In the fourth installment, Jim is still married to Michelle and now they have a kid! I’ll leave the rest to the released synopsis:

In the comedy American Reunion, all the American Pie characters we met a little more than a decade ago return to East Great Falls for their high-school reunion. In one long-overdue weekend, they will discover what has changed, who hasn’t and that time and distance can’t break the bonds of friendship. It was summer 1999 when four small-town Michigan boys began a quest to lose their virginity. In the years that have passed, Jim and Michelle married while Kevin and Vicky said goodbye. Oz and Heather grew apart, but Finch still longs for Stifler’s mom. Now these lifelong friends have come home as adults to reminisce about—and get inspired by—the hormonal teens who launched a comedy legend.

Watch the red band teaser trailer above. American Reunion hits theatres April 6, 2012.

Music video: David Guetta – “Without You” (Featuring Usher)

“Without You” is the third single off French DJ David Guetta’s latest album Nothing But the Beat and immediately it clicked with the general music-listening public. So much so, in fact, that the smash radio hit now stars in its very own music video. Turn up your speakers and watch Guetta and featured artist Usher ride the wave of plate tectonics in the clip embedded above.

Dragon Age web series starring Felicia Day debuts

Felicia Day, creator of The Guild and Penny from Dr. Horrible, stars as Tallis the Elvish assassin in the new six-part web series Dragon Age: Redemption. It takes place in Bioware’s Dragon Age universe, based on the video game franchise of the same name. Though the web series is essentially here to promote downloadable content for Dragon Age II, it also serves to elevate the relevance and respectability of a made-for-Internet series. Check out the first episode titled “Tallis” to see how Day and the creative team behind it have expertly blended fun dialogue (written by Day) and exciting action (directed by Peter Winther) that results in a worthy introduction to a live action series grounded in a video game-based world. New episodes will be uploaded to Machinima’s YouTube channel every Tuesday at midnight.

Trailer: The Avengers (plus character stills)

Prepare yourself for a giant slice of awesome. The Avengers brings together our favorite Marvel heroes in one kick-ass film. In the very first trailer created by a team led by director Joss Whedon, we witness the Avengers–namely Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and leader Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson)–joining forces to fend off the villainous Loki (Tom Hiddleston). If you recall, Loki is the adoptive brother-turned-archenemy of Thor introduced in the summer blockbuster released in May. Upon watching this trailer over and over again you will likely experience more than one nerdgasm (not unlike the ones you felt here and here). And then a giant wave of anticipation will hit you: The Avengers assemble May 4, 2012.

Oh but there’s more. Check out the gallery below for some epic character stills.

TV trailer: Kiefer Sutherland in Tim Kring’s ‘Touch’

Here it is, our very first look at the upcoming FOX drama Touch. The show focuses on a father (played by 24’s Kiefer Sutherland) who discovers that his autistic, mute son (newcomer David Mazouz) can predict events before they happen. Danny Glover, Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Undercovers), and Titus Welliver–better known as The Man in Black from Lost–round out the cast. Read over this fuller synopsis after you watch the powerful trailer:

At the center of TOUCH is MARTIN BOHM (Sutherland), a widower and single father, haunted by an inability to connect to his mute 11-year-old son, JAKE (David Mazouz). After multiple failed attempts at keeping Jake in school, Martin is visited by CLEA HOPKINS (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), a social worker sent to evaluate Jake’s well-being. Everything changes when Martin discovers that Jake possesses the gift of staggering genius – the ability to see things that no one else can and the patterns that connect seemingly unrelated events. Jake is indeed communicating. But it’s not with words, it’s with numbers. Martin meets ARTHUR DEWITT (Danny Glover), a professor and an expert on children who possess special gifts when it comes to numbers. Now, it’s up to Martin to decipher the meaning and connect the numbers to the cast of characters whose lives they affect.

With the trope of interconnectedness scattered throughout the trailer and synopsis it’s little surprise that Tim Kring, the creative mind behind Heroes, is the one who imagined Touch. Everything about the trailer has been excited about this show. An emotionally charged Sutherland leads a cast consisting of veteran and young stars that show much promise here. And as for the story Kring’s itching to tell: color me happily intrigued. Touch will air in midseason on FOX.

‘South Park’ docu goes behind-the-scenes with creators Parker & Stone

Tonight (10/9) Comedy Central is airing a South Park documentary called “6 Days to Air: the making of South Park.” Show creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone allowed documentarian Arthur Bradford to sneak a peek behind the scenes at the making of a full 22-minute episode. The doc was shot over the course of three months at the South Park Studios in Los Angeles. According to the press release, “Viewers will get a look at Parker and Stone’s thought process as they approach a new episode and the 24/7 grind they subject themselves to each time the show is in production. The documentary also includes in-depth interviews with Parker and Stone about their working partnership and reflections on highlights from their careers, such as the making of the original short, “The Spirit of Christmas,” as well as their memorable appearance at the 2000 Oscars when they walked the red carpet in drag.”

“We wanted to make something that would appeal to both the hard-core fans and the casual viewers,” said Bradford. “Trey and Matt are two of the most interesting people I know and the way they make ‘South Park’ is completely fascinating and inspiring.”

Hop after the break to watch Parker and SNL player Bill Hader voice characters from the recent episode “You’re Getting Old” (it’s a riot!) and click here to watch some more previews.

6 Days to Air: the making of South Park airs tonight–that is Sunday October 9 at 10PM on Comedy Central.
