Prepare for the ‘Walking Dead’ zombie invasion, coming to a city near you! [Update: video compilation]

Can you believe it!?  The highly anticipated TV adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s comic book The Walking Dead is set to premiere this weekend!  To promote the upcoming series premiere, AMC and Fox International Channels have teamed up to stage real live “zombie attacks” in 26 cities around the world over a 24-hour period.  Inspired by the show’s makeup artist Greg Nicotero, hundreds of undead extras will begin the invasion tomorrow, October 26 at daybreak in Taipei and Hong Kong.  After speading the outbreak to major landmarks including the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C., Big Ben in London, the Prado Museum in Madrid, the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul, and the Acropolis in Athens, the zombies will end their spree in Los Angeles, just in time for the big LA premiere event.  Look after the break for a full listing of the promotional zombie tour stops.

The Walking Dead premieres this Sunday, October 31 at 9PM on AMC.

Conan releasing two comedy (rock) albums on Jack White’s Third Man Records label

With his highly anticipated TBS show looming on the horizon, Conan O’Brien is readying two comedy albums for his most loyal fans.  The first record, “Conan O’Brien Live at Third Man”, is a live LP that features “an amazing set of rock and roll tunes and hilarity” and includes performances by Conan and The Legally Prohibited Band (from his Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour), 7 Nation Army, and The White Stripes’ Jack White duet with Conan of Eddie Cochran’s 20 Flight Rock.  This 12″ vinyl is available to purchase today.  The second record “And They Call Me Mad” is a 7″ vinyl; the A side features a improvisational spoken word take on the Frankenstein legend, and the B side is an interview with Conan conduced by Jack White.  This record is due out August 24.  Both of them were recorded at Third Man Records (founded by White) in Nashville, Tennessee during his stop there on tour.  A blog post on the TeamCoco website describes the studio session:

Conan blazed through a rocking setlist of stuff from our Legally Prohibited show – as well as a few other jams that we’ve never done!  The energy in the room was incredible: The band lit by a dim red light, the hot Nashville air thick with excitement; the room packed to capacity – it was a scene the likes of which I’ve never experienced.  I could totally see this show being something that happened outside under a tent in the South in the 50’s.  A very, very cool vibe.

Booth tours: Microsoft & Sony

And that marks the end of the interview + hands-on content.  Now it’s time for the booth tours!  On the last day of E3 2010 I decided to hit record on my camcorder and capture the highlights of almost every booth on the show floor.  I did it so you can get a real sense of how each booth was set up and what it all looked like from the perspective of an attendee.  Sure E3 is all about the games, but game studios put a ton of effort into making extravagant booths to attract those in attendance; the booths (and requisite booth babes) play a big part in making E3, well, what it has come to be.  No, there’s nothing like actually being there and speaking with all the developers and playing all the games.  But the following videos and pictures will bring you pretty darn close to the action.

Here’s how the booth tour posts are set up.  You’ll find an embedded YouTube video at the top; this video will contain 2-3 booth tours.  Below you will see various picture galleries separated by company.  Next to each company’s name I hand-picked the most popular games featured at that booth.  And that’s it, really.  So go ahead and dive into this first one here–it’s Microsoft and Sony, two of the biggest booths on campus.

Somehow the video footage from the MTV Games/Harmonix booth got lost in the archives…but I have pictures to put in its place!

The layout of the MTV Games/Harmonix was pretty straightforward.  The bulk of it was filled with the current Rock Band titles and they include The Beatles: Rock Band, Green Day: Rock Band, and Rock Band 3; a section of the booth contained Dance Central stations (that’s the Kinect-enabled dance party game).  Speaking of RB 3, the brand spankin’ new keyboard was playable at the booth.  It’s a very solid piece of hardware and a welcome addition to the guitar, drums, and mics.  The new Rock Band Pro guitars, including the Fender Mustang and six-string Fender Squier Stratocaster, were on display.  Man are they beautiful, and they look so real (in fact, the latter one is real)!  But don’t take my word for it; look in the gallery to see for yourself.

Glee tour gets detailed

With the Glee tour set to begin May 15 in Phoenix, AZ it’s no surprise that tour details are starting to trickle out.  Executive producer and tour director Ryan Murphy shared the scoop with EW.  “We’re gonna do between 15 and 18 numbers.  We made a decision to do our biggest hits because that’s what fans want to see.  It’s a concert tour but it also has a story in it.”  According to EW, the story involves the rivalry between Shue’s New Directions and Vocal Adrenaline.  Murphy is super excited about the tour, maybe because the set is designed by Lady Gaga’s designer.  “It’s a huge stage.  We’ve got multimedia.  It’s really big.  Fox believes in it so much that they’ve hired the best people.  It’s not about going out and selling out a lot of dates and making a lot of money.  In fact, we won’t make any money with this first tour because we’ve put so much money into the set design.  It’s really just a great thank you to our fans.”  Aw, how thoughtful.  Too bad all the venues sold out in under a minute!

Kid Cudi college concert @ Bucknell University [video + pictures]

On April 9 Kid Cudi visited Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, another stop on his nationwide college tour.  I was there, so naturally I took videos and pictures to share with you.  Cudder knows how to put on a concert.  He really draws in the entire crowd and interacts with some of them.  He feels the music when he’s performing and you can tell; that’s a special quality only few artists have.  If you get the opportunity to see him live, don’t miss out.

Cudi performed 17 songs total, including tracks from his debut album Man on the Moon: The End of Day and his mixtape A Kid Named Cudi.  He also performed Groovin’, an unreleased track he said we’ll find on his next album tentatively titled Cudder and the Revolution of Evolution.

CoCo comedy tour coming to a city near you

Today Conan O’Brien posted his most exciting tweet yet: “Hey Internet: I’m headed to your town on a half-assed comedy & music tour. Go to http://TeamCoco.com for tix. I repeat: It’s half-assed.”

That’s right, the rumors were true!  Conan is going on tour this spring hitting up 30 cities between April and June.  The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour kicks off April 12 in Oregon, makes its way through Canada and across the US, and finishes in Atlanta, Georgia on June 14.  Like Conan said, head over to http://TeamCoco.com (or Ticketmaster) to purchase tickets.  Soon after Conan shared the news on Twitter, tickets sold out in major cities like NYC and Chicago.  Conan later announced that extra dates would be added to the following venues: New York, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, Vancouver, San Fransisco, and Seattle.  So, if you are planning on buying tickets you better get on it, like right now.  Full tour schedule posted after the break.  Oh, and it’s good to see Conan has finally accepted the nickname Tom Hanks made for him back on The Tonight Show.  “CoCo-CoCo-CoCo!”

“Glee Live! In Concert!” hitting four cities this spring

That’s right, fellow Gleeks.  The main ensemble of FOX’s hit show Glee are going on tour this spring.  They will perform seven shows total in four cities.  The cast includes Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn), Amber Riley (Mercedes), Chris Colfer (Kurt), Kevin McHale (Artie), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), Mark Salling (Puck), Dianna Agron (Quinn), Naya Rivera (Santana), Heather Morris (Brittany), Harry Shum, Jr. (Mike), and Dijon Talton (Matt).  Matthew Morrison (Will Schuster) and Jane Lynch (Sue Sylvester) are noticibly absent from this list; bummer, I know!  Part of the setlist was leaked to the press (I wonder who did that…): “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Somebody To Love,” “Jump,” “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” and “Sweet Caroline.”  And here’s the schedule:

May 18 – Phoenix, AZ Dodge Theatre
May 20 – Los Angeles, CA Gibson Amphitheatre
