The Marc Webb Spider-Man reboot is still in production, but Sony Pictures is giving us a glimpse into the movie right now! Unfortunately the trailer does not overly impress; there’s a feeling of been there done that and it lingers throughout. However, it must be said that Mirror’s Edge-like first person sequence during the final act of the clip is fun to watch in full screen HD. At Comic Con it was made official that Rhys Ifans will indeed play the villainous Lizard, though his mutant form is not revealed in this trailer. Anticipate the webslinger’s return in The Amazing Spider-Man July 3, 2012.

Marc Webb’s Spidey reboot gets a name and it is ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’
Finally; we are no longer required to refer to the new Spidey franchise as the “Marc Webb reboot.” Today Columbia Pictures announced the title of the flick: The Amazing Spider-Man. That happens to be the name of the original Spidey comic book and makes a great title for upcoming movie because we know that it will take place during Peter Parker’s youthful high school years. Inside the press release the studio attached the first image of Andrew Garfield in the famous full mask and suit; if you’ll recall the previous image we saw featured Garfield in the suit sans the mask. Looks awesome, huh? The attention to detail here is absolutely phenomenal. Take a look at the wrists–those are mechanical web shooters! Spider-Man reboot is getting the RED EPIC 3D treatment
Spider-Man reboot cinematographer Jason Schwartzman beat Peter Jackson to the punch! Just about one week after Jackson announced his crew would be using 30 RED EPIC cameras to shoot The Hobbit in 3D, Schwartzman started production on Spider-Man using 3 EPIC cameras mounted on 2 3ality rigs. This makes the Spidey reboot the very first major studio motion picture to be shot using the highly lauded RED EPIC configuration. Schwartzman shared his initial thoughts after the first day of shooting. “I can say for certainty the camera does exist and boy is it ready for primetime, as a matter of fact it’s a true game changer. We shot in 3D…including running high speed and the images look stunning!” Watching a movie in 3D is hotly debatable topic, but there’s no arguing against the 5K super hi-def resolution that EPIC camera make possible. The Hobbit and Spider-Man are going to look good.
In related Spidey news, actress Emma Stone returned to her blonde roots for her Gwen Stacey role. Let’s just say it’s a natural fit.

Emma Stone nabs female lead in Spider-Man reboot
After days of speculation, Sony Pictures has confirmed that Emma Stone will in fact play the lead female role in Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot. It’s just not the role you think. Stone (Superbad, Zombieland, Easy A) is set to play Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker’s first love–not Mary Jane Watson. That character has yet to be cast. Director Webb shared his thoughts on the casting: “The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice. At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl. Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own. Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde.” Spider-Man begins production this December and it’s slated to release in 3D on July 3, 2012.

Andrew Garfield is the new Spider-Man
Goodbye Tobey Maguire. Hello Andrew Garfield. “Andrew who?” you ask. He’s a 26-year-old Brit who is best known in the UK for his film Boy A. In the U.S. he’s appeared in The Other Boleyn Girl and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and has roles in the upcoming movies The Social Network and Never Let Me Go. After a falling-out between previous Spider-Man director Sam Raimi and the studio heads, Sony Pictures decided to scrap Spidey 4 and start from scratch with a Spider-Man reboot that will focus largely on Peter Parker’s teenage years in high school. An official press statement shares the pertinent news:
After a comprehensive worldwide casting search, Andrew Garfield has been chosen to portray Peter Parker when Spider-Man swings back onto the screen in 3D on July 3, 2012. The new film will begin production in early December directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad will produce the film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios.
Director Marc Webb ((500) Days of Summer) on Garfield as the new Spidey: “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. Will Garfield be able to pull it off as the next Spider-Man? Somehow he was able to beat out fan favorites Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief), Anton Yelchin (J.J.’s Star Trek), and Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass). The only concern I have is his age. At 26 years old, I’m worried about how they plan to make us believe he is a teenager. Lerman, who is only 18 years of age, feels to me like he’d fit the suit best. With a release slated for 2012, the studio has plenty of time to transform Garfield just as they did with a young Maguire back in 2002.
