“Apple engineer” talks new MacBook in hysterical viral video

Mere days after Apple’s “Spring Forward” keynote, an absolutely hysterical video regarding one of the product announcements made at the event has surfaced and gone viral.

At the keynote, Apple CEO Tim Cook and his team unveiled a new MacBook that’s so thin and light that it had to do away with all the ports you’re used to having on a notebook, namely, the ubiquitous USB port. What you’ll find on the new MacBook is a smaller, single USB Type-C port that will charge it. If you want to connect external devices to it, such as hard drives and monitors, you’ll have to pick up adapters (until, of course, Type-C becomes a true industry standard).

Anyway, that’s more than enough background you’ll need to enjoy this funny clip. YouTuber Armando Ferreira presents, “Apple Engineer Talks about the New 2015 Macbook.” You might want to grab some tissues to dab away tears of incoming laughter; enjoy!

NBC schedules ‘Hannibal’ season 3 for June (2 new posters inside!)

Calling all Fannibals, it’s nearly time to feast once again. Today the Peacock network penciled in the season 3 premiere date of Bryan Fuller’s bloody good drama Hannibal. Will Graham’s hunt for Hannibal Lector begins Thursday, June 4 at 10pm. So mark your calendars and sharpen your kitchen knives, but not before watching the season 3 trailer!

Fuller confirmed the news with a simple tweet stating “TUCK IN” and using the hashtag #HannibalReturnsJune4. He also mentions actress Gillian Anderson, now a series regular, because she’s featured in the new Hannibal poster plastered above. Anderson plays Hannibal’s shrink Bedelia du Maurier, and at the very end of last season she’s seen escaping the States on a plane sitting next to Dr. Lector. Take in the beautifully simple poster, and then, jump after the break to see a leather jacket-clad Mads Mikkelsen.

One more thing. Here’s a super fun fact: NBC additionally scheduled new summer drama Aquarius starring David Duchovny for Thursday, May 28 from 9-11pm. The following week it will fall into its regular Thursdays-at-9 timeslot preceding Hannibal. Do you get what I’m hinting at here? Duchovny’s new show serves as an appetizer (ahem, apéritif) to one starring Gillian Anderson; it’s an X-Files reunion…of sorts! Harmonix resurrects ‘Rock Band’ for Xbox One & PS4–get all the details here

Eight years after releasing the original Rock Band, developer Harmonix is readying the fourth iteration in the musical video game franchise. Rock Band 4 is coming to current-gen consoles only, namely Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Right off the bat, here are answers to questions you probably want to know immediately. The Rock Band Music Store will be accessible in the new title; this will allow gamers to download and play over 2,000 tracks when the game launches. Of course, those tracks are in addition to new tracks that will ship on the title’s disc. Due to licensing restrictions, songs featured on Rock Band 3 and The Beatles Rock Band will not be carried over to the Music Store. What about previously purchased songs you might have downloaded for Rock BandRB2, and RB3? The developer claims all your DLC will transfer from PS3 to PS4 and from Xbox 360 to Xbox One; purchases are tied to your console maker, so if you purchased songs on PS3 and want to play them on Xbox One, that unfortunately won’t be possible.

And what about those plastic peripherals probably collecting dust in your basements and garages? Harmonix is working closely with Microsoft and Sony to make your old-gen guitars and drum kits compatible with RB4. Keyboards, however, will no longer be supported. But of course, the dev is collaborating with accessory maker Mad Catz again to ship updated instruments with the game.

Besides all this, we really don’t know much about the game yet. In a behind-the-scenes clip, the team at Harmonix shares their excitement about creating a brand new Rock Band that will go back to the franchise’s roots in terms of gameplay; and at the same time, it will introduce new ways to play. “There is some evolution of the way that you play that’s in this game that really wouldn’t have been possible if we made the game a couple years ago,” teases company CEO Steve Janiak. Harmonix, whose self-publishing this passion project, says fans of the franchise should not expect a Rock Band 5 any time soon. They envision RB4 to serve as a platform that can exist for the entire length of a console generation; instead of saturating the market with new $60 titles every year, they will continually evolve gameplay with software updates and keep things fresh, of course, with new DLC tracks. Music to my ears!

You can sign up for preorder notifications today. Jump after the break to eyeball the familiar-looking instruments, and rock on!

Bonus! Check out this 15-year-old girl shredding on her custom-made Vigier Excalibur playing “Through the Fire and the Flames” and let all the good Rock Band memories come flooding back. Continue reading Harmonix resurrects ‘Rock Band’ for Xbox One & PS4–get all the details here

Discover new music: Lauriel beats to her own drum in ritualistic “Rival”

It’s about time we discovered new music together. Today’s featured artist is Lauriel, a 22-year-old singer-songwriter who just dropped her very first music video. The highly stylized clip for poppy “Rival” features Lauriel donning all kinds of fantastical pieces of wardrobe that you might find inside Lady Gaga’s closet. As soon as one Lauriel claims power amongst her tribal inner circle, another comes into play and takes over by violently taking out her predecessor. But what does it all mean? I spoke directly with the source:

Lauriel likens “Rival” to “Fight Club as a Greek tragedy.” Interestingly, she explains that her influences “are not necessarily musical and were more colors, and historical time periods, art, literature, and my own experiences.” The song is very personal for the young artist. “It’s about doubt and battling the voice in your head that tells you you can’t do something, or you’re not good enough. The bridge was a big moment for me because it’s me talking directly to that internal nay sayer–‘I’m in control here, I’ll survive and persevere without doubt but you can’t carry on unless I give you power to.’ That’s what the whole song is about, that power struggle. I think the video reflects that.”

With that said, Lauriel hopes viewers will watch the playful yet harrowing visuals and interpret it for themselves. “I wasn’t thinking about messages, I figured people would take what they want to from it,” she adds. “Some people will see it very literally, some will want it to open conversation about suicide, some people will see it as rebirth, throwing out the past and old selves that you don’t want to be anymore. I think it’s all accurate in a way, with art there’s generally no right answer. It’s just meant to make you feel and think.”

Whatever you make of it, there’s no denying its gripping vulnerability as Lauriel falls in and out of dramatized versions of herself. Concerning her musical talents, she says she grew up listening to British bands like Queen, The Beatles, and Sex Pistols, as well as old soul bluesy jazz types like Billie Holiday, Otis Redding, Etta James, and Aretha Franklin. She looked to these artists for inspiration when making the soulful, dramatic “Rival.”

Want to hear more from Lauriel? Visit her SoundCloud page to browse a mixtape that’s currently in early stages. Perhaps with positive feedback she’ll be further inspired to release more music that’s as raw and dynamic as what we’ve got here. In the meantime, Lauriel pursues a writing career in film and TV; do you think “Rival” could be a promising seed for a future feature? Sound off in the comments below!

Final ‘Age of Ultron’ trailer assembles Avengers one last time ahead of May release

Here we have the third and final trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron and it’s a doozy. In it we learn more about the origins of the superhero film’s big bad Ultron, who’s voiced by the incomparable James Spader. “I was designed to save the world,” snarls the A.I. And then: “There’s only one path to peace: their extinction.” Ultron was created by Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) as part of a project that would “create a suit of armor around the world.” Unfortunately, things went unexpectedly awry and he ended up “creating something terrible.”

Ultron’s plan? “We can tear them apart from the inside,” he brainstorms alongside Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Does this mean the new additions are playing for the wrong team, or is this all a trick? Regardless, the plan will prove fruitful since we’ve already seen The Hulk duke it out with Stark’s Hulkbuster.

Finally, there’s the tantalizing tease at the very end–our first look at The Vision, a popular superhero that Marvel’s been hinting at in its recent slew of movie posters. He’s played by Paul Bettany, the same actor who’s been voicing Stark’s home and suit A.I. J.A.R.V.I.S. Intrigue!

Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theatres May 1.

FXX renews ‘Man Seeking Woman’ for a second season

Man Seeking Woman, FXX’s bizarre relationship comedy from Simon Rich and starring Jay Baruchel and Eric André, will return for a 10-episode second season in 2016. The series, based on Rich’s book of short stories The Last Girlfriend On Earth, is an absurd and hilarious look at the life-and-death stakes of dating. In a recent episode, Baruchel’s Josh Greenberg dates the luminous Minka Kelly only to be cockblocked by a Japanese penis monster named Tanaka. It’s different and weird and best of all it works. If you’re a single 20-something trying to find love in the big city, you may be surprised at how relatable this fantastical show can be.

“Simon Rich has delivered an incredibly smart and original take on the search for love,” said FX exec Nick Grad in a statement. “Critics and fans alike have embraced his unique storytelling, [EP] Jon Krisel’s stunning visuals and the brilliant performances of Jay Baruchel, Eric André and the rest of the cast that has made Man Seeking Woman one of the best new comedies on television.”

“Working on Man Seeking Woman has been the creative highlight of my life,” added Rich. “FXX gave us the freedom to make the show we love and they let us build some truly disgusting monsters. I’m so grateful to [FX Networks CEO] John Landgraf and his team for believing in us and I can’t wait to get back to work.”

Man Seeking Working airs Wednesdays at 10:30pm on FXX.

Kid Cudi spreads the “love.” with new Ratatat-sampled track

It’s been a hot minute since Scott Mescudi released new music. Today, I’m enthused to report that the Kid Named Cudi is back with a fresh jam that sizzles with positive vibes and will have you feeling the best kind of nostalgia. In “love.,” Kid Cudi samples Ratatat’s track “Sunblocks”; the last time Cudder collaborated with the electronic rock duo’s music to this degree of perfection was back in 2009 with Man on the Moon’“Alive.”

What is “love.”? Sadly it doesn’t seem like it’s a single off Cudi’s anticipated Man on the Moon threequel that’s currently in the works. In a SoundCloud post, he shares that it’s a track that was made during his Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon sessions. It’s produced by Cudi, and his WZRD partner Dot Da Genius provided the keys.

With lyrics like, “Don’t be so down, come on young homie / You’ll be OK, you’ll find real love / All of the stories the hero gets lonely / Now is the time to show what you’re made of,” Cudi “hope[s] it brings you some peace if you have a lonely heart out there.” Get lost in it below.

‘Community: Age of Yahoo’ trailer previews highly anticipated season six [Update: Premiere day arrives, here’s how to watch]

Dan Harmon parodies The Avengers in the very first look at Community‘s new lease on life. The Community: Age of Yahoo trailer (get it?) runs nearly three minutes long and consists entirely of never-before-seen material plucked directly from the upcoming batch of new episodes. “You’ve saved Greendale, but you didn’t want it to change,” snarls the dramatic voice-over announcer. Thankfully, it looks like Community fans will continue to get the same show they fell in love with even after its relocation to the Internet. Though Pierce, Troy, and Shirley are MIA for season six, one Frankie Dart (aka “the new Shirley” played by Paget Brewster) and computer innovator Elroy Patashnik (Keith David) fill in the missing holes. The classic Community humor you know and love permeates throughout this extended first look, and just like that anticipation for the coveted sixth season jumped exponentially!

Community premieres Tuesday, March 17 exclusively on Yahoo Screen with two installments; new episodes will follow weekly on Tuesdays.

Update (3/17): Community is back in session! Here’s how you can watch. The fastest way to get started is by pointing your web browser to Yahoo Screen. On a tablet or smartphone? No problem. Download the free Yahoo Screen app for iOS or Android. Want to pretend like Community’s still airing on network TV and watch it on your big screen HDTV? You can totally do that, as long as you have an Apple TV, Roku, or Xbox 360; download the free Yahoo Screen app on one of those devices to get streaming. As mentioned above, Yahoo debuted the first two episodes of Community today (they both clock in at 27:26). Additional new episodes (13 total) will release weekly on Tuesdays.

Kanye West announces new album title, artwork & single “All Day”

This week Kanye West made a few major announcements regarding his upcoming seventh studio album: it’s got a title, new single, and fresh album artwork. Ye’s next collection of music is collectively called So Help Me God and it will ship with previously released tracks “Only One” (Featuring Paul McCartney) and “Wolves” (Featuring Sia and Vic Mensa). Sources say the Rihanna-led “Four Five Seconds” is exclusively bound for the Barbadian singer’s next record.

As for Ye’s third single off So Help Me God, it’s called “All Day” and he debuted it live at the BRIT Awards last week. Today, he released a studio version on iTunes; preview it above. If you’ve been missing Ye going hard, “All Day” is the answer to your prayers. The rapper spits lyrics on top of an infectious beat, and he’s assisted by Trinidadian-born alt-hip-hop artist Theophilus London, Canadian rising rapper Allan Kingdom, and yes, Sir Paul McCartney rounds the track out with some whistling. Rolling Stone reports McCartney’s contribution, and they astutely speculate that the whistling was actually plucked from a song the Beatle shared in 1969.

Lastly, scroll up to eyeball the stylistic album artwork for So Help Me God. Four lower-case m’s connect to form a diamond shape. Redditors say it’s representative of a 13th century monastic symbol for the Virgin Mary, but I don’t buy it until Kanye says otherwise.

When can we expect the album to drop in full? West recently sat down with Power 105.1 and he claimed that it’s 80% complete. And even when it is ready, a hard release date will not be announced. Following in the footsteps of Queen Bey and Drake, Ye plans on surprising his fans by dropping his next studio album without any notice.

If you consider yourself to be a major Kanye fan, or if you’re simply interesting in exploring the controversial rapper’s mind, I highly recommend you listen to the aforementioned interview in full, here. In it, he discusses everything from his award show interruptions to his design aspirations. When asked to describe his upcoming album, he said this: “My last album [Yeezus] was a protest of music…This album is about embracing the music and embracing joy and being of joy and being of service to the people. I just hope people like it and enjoy it.”

‘Orphan Black’ season 3 trailer arrives (spoiler: so. many. clones.)

Orphan Black is back this spring, so now is as good a time as ever to screen the official season 3 trailer. Sarah Manning and her Leda clones clash with Castor’s male doppelgängers and things are about to get hairy for all involved. And of course Mrs. S’ true motives remain a mystery; the clip reveals she will aid in Helena’s latest kidnapping. Oh and it looks like Rachel Duncan managed to survive that grisly pencil puncture to the eye.

Orphan Black returns April 18 on BBC America.

Update (3/25): Check out another new trailer that’s embedded after the break. Castor Clones is the theme here. Continue reading ‘Orphan Black’ season 3 trailer arrives (spoiler: so. many. clones.)
