Comic Con 2011: ‘Beavis and Butt-Head’ (“Holy Cornholio” clip inside!)

The biggest idiots to hit the airwaves after the cast of The Jersey Shore are back. After being offered to make a sequel to Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, creator Mike Judge (King of the Hill) ultimately decided it’d be best to bring back the characters in their true form–made for TV. Here’s the highlights from the panel that was moderated by beer-sippin’ Jackass star Johnny Knoxville:

  • On why he quit the show in 1997 and then decided to bring it back Judge said, “I quit because I was getting a little burnt out. I kept writing ideas down and kept thinking about doing a movie. King of the Hill was done and they came to me. And I thought this would be pretty fun to do. I guess the answer is: I like doing it. Also, I like to feel like they’re kinda timeless.” Man, was he right. After screening never-before-scene clips from the upcoming season, fans in attendance didn’t hold back their affection for the show; the cheers were deafening, and I was part of it.
  • Rather than screen an entire episode, Judge previewed scenes from the upcoming season. In a clip titled “Werewolves of Highland” Beavis and Butt-Head are on the hunt for girls; Judge says that the boys still haven’t scored with the ladies yet. After gaining inspiration from watching Twilight they decide they want to become vampires to help them score. They encounter a “werewolf” on the street (a hairy homeless man) and make him bite them. After the “transformation is complete” the idiots proclaim, “let’s go get some girls.” Moments later they are diagnosed with Hepatitis C.
  • Next the boys were back on the couch watching TV, ready to satirize (what else?) reality TV. Jersey Shore, 16 and PregnantTeen Mom, and Teen Cribs were all featured here. All of these shows are ripe for B&B satirizing, and Judge nails it. The crowd loved it. Judge promises that the show will also poke fun at UFC fights, YouTube videos, and of course, music videos.
  • In another extended scene screened, Judge resurrects Beavis’ alter-ego Cornholio. In “Holy Cornholio” Beavis screws a plastic doll into his hand and has to go to the hospital. A series of events leads the entire town worshiping him as the Messiah. Watch the clip after the break.
  • When asked if a new B&B video game will release following the TV revival, Judge said that one might be coming soon. I remember playing the B&B game for Sega Game Gear and it was a ton of fun. Glad to hear a new one’s being conceptualized. And here’s a fun fact: a B&B ride was once in the works; it involved Butt-Head driving a cab and running things over, but unfortunately it never came into existence.
  • Overall the panel was one helleva nostalgic ride. It really feels like the idiot duo never left us. The crude animation style is virtually the same, and the boys’ attitude towards all the crap out there today carries over from the their past life. The material screen at the panel was genuinely funny, and I am genuinely excited for the long-awaited return Beavis and Butt-Head.

Watch this never-before-seen ‘Lost’ deleted scene

At Comic Con, Lost showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse crashed EW’s Totally Lost: One Year Later panel and brought with them a never-before-seen clip, an alternate ending to the pivotal season one finale. Lindelof and Cuse ultimately decided against keeping this scene in the finale “for fear that it revealed too much about how the series would eventually end.” Watch it, and decide for yourself whether or not it was wise to remove it.

Psht, and people thought they were making it all up as they were going along!

Nickelodeon ’90s programming block is back!

Did you grow up on ’90s Nick? If so, and like me, I’m sure you’ve been waiting with bated breath for the retro programming block dubbed “The ’90s Are All That” to premiere on TeenNick. On Monday, July 25 at midnight classic Nick shows All That, Kenan & Kel, Clarissa Explains It All, and Doug returned to the airwaves. TeenNick allots four hours to the retro shows; from midnight-2AM four episodes air, and from 2AM-4AM the same shows repeat. The block so far has been a ratings boon; across basic cable it averaged 555,000 viewers (that’s up 114 percent from last year). Viewers have been sharing their nostalgic memories on Facebook and Twitter; all last week the Trending Topics have been buzzing about the block. In addition to the programming, the network has spruced up the commercial breaks with classic Nickelodeon signage and animations. Except that everything’s been remixed. Nick called up DJ Steve Porter to create a music video of sorts that mashes up a bunch of retro Nick shows and plays around with all the theme songs. Look after the break to watch the clip that previews all of the shows ready to make a return to television. Following the current lineup lead by All That, you can expect animated toons like Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, The Ren & Stimpy Show, and Rugrats and live action shows like The Adventures of Pete & Pete, Salute Your Shorts, and The Secret World of Alex Mack to make major comebacks. So far, my favorite sketch brought back to life is the scene from Kenan & Kel: “I…dropped the screw…in the tuna!

Relive your childhood memories weeknights from midnight-2AM on TeenNick. Continue reading Nickelodeon ’90s programming block is back!

Conan gets animated in faux trailer for ‘The Flaming C’

From the creators of Batman: The Animated Series and the Masturbating Bear comes THE FLAMING C, Conan O’Brien’s superhero alter ego! At Comic Con, Conan crashed the Warner Bros. panel for Green Lantern: The Animated Series to reveal his new trailer for The Flaming C, a movie that is coming to a theatre near you “sometime…maybe.” If you’ve been living under a rock for the past year (or if you’re just not an avid Conan viewer), hop after the break to watch the origin story behind red-haired, oven mitted superhero. In December Conan visited the home of DC Comics and animator Bruce Timm brought to life Conan’s vision of his very own superhero. Like everything Conan does, it’s a riot! Trailer: Paranormal Activity 3

Another Halloween means another Paranormal Activity. With the Saw franchise dead and gone, Oren Peli’s low-budget supernatural horror flick has picked up the torch to become the go-to movie during the spooky season in late October. As seen in the trailer, the tape footage reveals the year 1988 meaning that the three-quel may serve as a true Paranormal Activity prequel starring a young Katie. Catfish directors Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost are at the helm here, and Peli serves as producer with Jason Blum, Steven Schneider, and Akiva Goldsman. PA3 releases October 21, 2011.

Trailer: The Amazing Spider-Man

The Marc Webb Spider-Man reboot is still in production, but Sony Pictures is giving us a glimpse into the movie right now! Unfortunately the trailer does not overly impress; there’s a feeling of been there done that and it lingers throughout. However, it must be said that Mirror’s Edge-like first person sequence during the final act of the clip is fun to watch in full screen HD. At Comic Con it was made official that Rhys Ifans will indeed play the villainous Lizard, though his mutant form is not revealed in this trailer. Anticipate the webslinger’s return in The Amazing Spider-Man July 3, 2012.

Trailer: Glee: The 3D Concert Movie

For those of you who couldn’t make the Glee Live! In Concert! tour, you won’t want to miss the upcoming 3D Concert Movie that’s packed with the tour’s musical numbers and behind-the-scenes action. The Kevin Tancharoen-directed 3D flick hits theatres August 12.

I just can’t get enough of that mini Warbler!

OK Go teams with dance troupe & Google to get interactive in latest music video

Viral video masters of alt-rock band OK Go have gone the distance (yet again) to create a masterful music video. And this time it’s interactive! OK Go has partnered with dance troupe Pilobolus and Google to form a music video for “All Is Not Lost,” a cut off their 2010 studio album Of the Blue Colour of the Sky. The four-piece band and the dance troupe have created a visually memorizing clip in which they dance around in synchronized fashion atop a glass, see-through surface. If you watch the regular music video in YouTube, you’ll see the bodies contort into all kinds of shapes and letters. If you’ve got Google Chrome installed, however, you’ll want to watch the interactive version of the video from within that browser. Thanks to the power of HTML5, viewers can type in a message prior to watching the video and during it you’ll see the contortionists perform the message! Additionally, the video will play in a myriad of open browser windows and they will move around and open and close at will; the experience is not unlike Arcade Fire’s experimental video “The Wilderness Downtown.”

Music video: Diggy – “Copy, Paste”

Here’s Diggy’s first official music video for “Copy, Paste,” the first single off the rising rapper’s debut album. In the Phil the God-directed clip, Diggy is hooked up to wires as young female lab technicians attempt to copy copy paste his DNA. In the middle he breaks down and shows off some fancy dance moves. Like I’ve said before, this kid’s got potential (and certainly the pedigree) to make it big. Look out for his album coming later this year.

Fallon, Timberlake & The Roots perform “History of Rap Part 2”

Man am I glad that the rap medley performed by Jimmy Fallon, Justin Timberlake, and Late Night house band The Roots is certain to become a regular segment on Fallon’s variety show. Just when you thought the original “History of Rap” posted last October couldn’t be topped, version 2.0 rolls around and it is guaranteed to knock your socks off. Mash play and take a journey through hip-hop; the rapping duo tackle classics from N.W.A.’s “Express Yourself” and Cypress Hills’ “Insane in the Brain” to modern hits like 50 Cent’s “In Da Club” and DJ Khaled’s “All I Do Is Win.” And that’s exactly what this is: pure win.

TV Reminder: Entourage premieres tonight at 10:30PM on HBO

The boys are back for one last hurrah. The eighth and final season of Entourage premieres tonight at 10:30PM on HBO. The shortened six episode season will air every Sunday at this timeslot; the series finale falls on August 28.

In an interview with Vulture, creator Doug Ellen says longtime viewers can expect a return to original form. “I wanted to get back to the early roots of the show, and get back to the guys sticking together, really looking out for each other” he says. “I wanted it to be a little lighter this season; obviously, the third episode is pretty dark, but I think we come out of that in a good way that’s realistic but also comedic.” As for the post-HBO run Entourage movie that’s in the works, Ellin says that the final season will not lead into the movie simply because the storyline for the feature film has not been decided yet. In his words: “I wish I was smart enough — everybody’s like, ‘Oh, you gotta leave it open, and do this and this.’ Every year I do the best I can and it ends somewhere and hopefully it satisfies. But it has nothing to do with any plan for the movie, because at this point there is no plan except [that] we’re gonna do one.” The plan is to ship the boys off to Europe in the movie, but beyond that Ellin’s taking his time in creating a satisfying conclusion for Vince and his friends.

Jump after the break to watch the season 8 poster animate and the latest trailer that teases what’s in store for the six-episode story arc ahead. Continue reading TV Reminder: Entourage premieres tonight at 10:30PM on HBO
